Additives for
Wood Plastic Composites
Wood Plastic Composites - Advantages

Wood/natural fibers Plastic

- Light weight - Weather resistance
- High strength - Easy to process
- Low cost - Dimensional, thermal stability
- Good availability - Designability (complex moulds)

Wood Plastic Composites

High quality requires the use of additives
E.g.: For best mechanical properties at high filling levels
a good adhesion between Fiber and Plastic Matrix is required

=> use of a suitable coupling agent necessary

Coupling Agents for WPC
Why do we need Coupling Agents?

„ Between filler and matrix usually there are poor bonding forces
⇒ bad mechanical properties prevent polymer-like
applications

„ Coupling agents provide a strong bonding via cross-linking and entanglements

⇒ mechanical properties are elevated to a level where they
can compete with usual polymeric applications
