Computer Laboratory Policies and

Guidelines

• No one is allowed to alter the setting configuration of any computer


laboratory facility without proper authorization from the LRC.

a. Equipment and cables are to be moved by authorized personnel only.


Users are not allowed to attach personal hardware or software in any of the
computer laboratory's network without permission from the Information
Technology Services Office.
b. Any malfunction or damage observed at the terminals assigned must be
immediately reported to the laboratory assistant on duty.

c. No laptops on the wired. It is okay to have laptops in the labs and be on the
wireless network, they just can't be physically plugged into our jacks.

• Chewing gum, eating, drinking, smoking, and any form of vandalism are
prohibited inside the computer laboratory.

• Games are not allowed inside the computer laboratory. This includes
computer-related games, card games and other games that may disturb
the operation of the laboratory.

• Accessing PORNOGRAPHIC sites is strictly prohibited.

• Cellular phones must be in silent mode before entering any computer lab.
Silence should always be observed. Please don't leave your screen locked for
more than five minutes. If you must leave for more than five minutes, please logout.

• Any conduct or activity which disturbs the computer laboratory's


environment is not allowed. Anyone causing continual disturbance will be
asked to leave the facility. If the offense done is serious enough, the
laboratory assistant may call the Discipline / Security Office for assistance.
• Computer laboratories are designated for academic use. Students needing
to use computers to complete academic assignments are given priority
over those using the facility for recreation.
• No illegal copying of ANY materials.
• Save all your work to removable media or your Z: drive. Do NOT save work
to the local (C:) hard drive.
• Do not abuse the hardware, software, or lab personnel, so please operate
the equipment with respect and care.
• Only use your own authorized username and do not use one belonging to
anyone else.
• Do not leave your computer for more than 15 minutes and be aware that if
you do, it may be disabling by the system administrator.
• Follow all rules, regulations and guidelines set forth in the Sohar college
student code of conduct and abide by all guidelines for ethical use of
computers.
• Be mindful of your per semester printing limit, and do not print multiple
copies of any document or anything for non-academic use.
• Software may be installed by Computer Labs staff only. Do not install any
software on your own. Files not put on by Computer Labs staff will be
routinely removed.
• No network abusive applications/games/programs
• Any failure to follow these lab rules may result in the loss of your lab
privileges.

CONSEQUENCES:
First Violation: The violator will receive a written warning from the
Coordinator of Instructional Computing outlining the consequences that will
follow if there are further violations.
Second Violation: The violator will be banned from all non-instructor
supervised computer labs for the remainder of the term in which the
violation occurs.
Third Violation: The violator will be permanently banned from all non-
instructor supervised computer labs.
