Communication is central 02

in how we live.
But...
many people dread
public speaking.
There's even a specific phobia called
'glossophobia' or speech anxiety.

if your tongue can
deliver the message
of your heart.

Purpose
05

Basic. You have to know
the purpose of your speech.
Is it for thesis defense? Project presentation?
Sales pitch? Or perhaps delivering a speech
at your BFF's wedding? This will help you to
determine your speech delivery.
Preparation
06

yamanah@ | wuopmamuS yaM anaH yb deraperP

Prepare your materials.
Know what you're going to bring to the table.
Master the product knowledge. Be ready with
supporting facts, including data and/or
numbers. When you understand what you're
saying, you're already nailing 90% of it!
Outline
07

Don't go empty handed!
Remember the simple basics :
Intro - Your main talks - Closure
If you're not confident about your ability to
memorize the sequences, make a cue-card.
Make it simple. If possible, concise everything
you need in a single page.
Be Yourself
08

yamanah@ | wuopmamuS yaM anaH yb deraperP

Don't be who you're not.
Many people tend to forget to be themselves
when they're public speaking, and that's also
why they get incredibly nervous.
You can add a dash of your humor and/or
simplified analogies. There's no need to
change your accent or use complicated terms.
Practice
09

yamanah@ | wuopmamuS yaM anaH yb deraperP

Practice makes perfect.
Even if you're a genius, it's still a must to
rehearse before going on-stage. You get to
prepare your confidence and know the areas
that can be improved. Record your
rehearsal(s) or do it in front of your peers.
Ask for feedback, evaluate, and repeat.

Additional bonuses!
Some technical tips that are
commonly practiced by
broadcasters, presenters, or MCs.
But you can obviously do these too!

Stay Hydrated
11

yamanah@ | wuopmamuS yaM anaH yb deraperP

Drink mineral water!
Yes, plain water. Drink sufficiently before
going on-stage, and make sure to have some
near you. Why? Drying throat will affect your
voice, as it will become hoarse. But not too
much, though. You don't want to end up
going back-and-forth to the loo.
Gesture
12

A strong first impression.
This might seem petty, but this is crucial.
Start off by showing that charming smile of
yours and stand tall. Build that 'warm,
confident and approachable' image. If you
find this hard, refer back to the point
'Practice'.
Eye Contact
13

Even if it's only an illusion.
Still relating to the previous tip, this will
boost up your 'confident' image. If you're
scared to look at your audience's eyes
directly, then just stare at their foreheads.
Even if you just do it for less than a second,
the impact will be great for you.
Clarity

A quick warm-up would do.
Practice your intonation, articulation, and
pauses. Don't go too fast just to end up
stuttering. Don't go too slow and seemingly
unconfident by slurring too many "eeerrr..."
or "uuhhmm.." Try to do the vocal exercise,
but this, of course, is for another topic. :D
Ice-Breakers

Blending with your audience.
1. Games and/or quizzes
2. Jokes
3. Quotes
4. Converse with the audience
5. Visual materials (illustrations, comics,
and/or short videos)
