EVENTS
1. Around the year 1046 BCE, King
Wu of the province of Zhou,
rebelled against King Zhou of
Shang and defeated his forces
at the Battle of Muye,
establishing the Zhou Dynasty.
Wu rebelled against the ruling
of Shang after the king of
Shang killed his older
unjustly. The Mandate of Heaven
was invoked by Wu and his
family to legitimize the revolt
as he felt that Shang were no
longer acting in the interest
of the people and so had
forfeited the mandate between
the monarchy and the god of
law, order, and justice,
Shangti.
2. The Warring States Period in
which the seven states fought
with each other for control.
The seven states considered
themselves sovereign but none
of whom felt confident in
claiming the Mandate of Heaven
still held by the Zhou of
Luoyang. All the seven states
used the same tactics and
observed the same rules of
conduct in battle and so none
could gain the advantage over

This event is important because this
started their belief on the Mandate of
Heaven. The Mandate of Heaven was thus
defined as the god’s blessing on a just
ruler and rule by divine. When the
government no longer served the will of
the gods, that government would be
overthrown. During the Zhou Dynasty
philosophical thoughts emerged even the
military strategist. During this time
also chariots were fully developed. The
events happened during the Zhou Dynasty
made the Chinese civilization to flourish
and improve things in their economic and
political aspects. Because of the mandate
of heaven leaders were scared to break
the divine law in order for them not to
be overthrown. The leaders must always
work and perform proper conduct as a
steward of the lands entrusted him by
heaven.
This event is important and significant
because this made the China to become
one. The Warfare became a game of skill
of the Nobleman’s with very set of rules
dictated by the courtesy or the perceived
will of the Heave. From this event it
also embarked lessons that one should not
attack the weak or the unprepared and one
was expected to delay engagement until an
opponent had mobilized and formed ranks

warring states made it realized that
there should be one leader to unify then,

This event made the China to become a
literate country and it imbibe the
principles of the Confucianism. This is
significant because the Han dynasty
contributed to the development of China.
There were many inventions and life
lessons that was found and learned during
the Han Dynasty. Their economy also

unfit rulers were scared making them to
do their responsibility properly.
This is significant because the
bureaucratic policies of the Tang Dynasty
are still in use in Chinese government in
the modern day. During this dynasty there
was also crime and punishment which until
now is being used. There were also
policies that was initiated which
improved the living conditions in china
and strengthened the position of the
emperor. Trade also flourished which is
very dominant until now, the silk road
being the route and place of trading.
This made China become more powerful and
its economics also increased.

LEGACY SIGNIFICANCE IN THE MODERN WORLD

1. Their Belief on Their belief on Mandate of Heaven helped the Chinese

possess the approval of heaven. Hence also the number of
religious ceremonies they were to perform and the names
of some buildings within the imperial dwelling. The
command of heaven equals legitimacy.
Although in this modern world monarchy is not prominent,
there are still countries who believe on this.
2. The Great Wall This legacy is important in the modern today because it
 of China showed us how the China used this to defend themselves
from the Mongols. This is known as one of the longest
man made structure in the world and it help the Chinese
civilization to protect themselves from any invasion.
This is not just a tourist attraction in this modern
world but this has a significant message to everyone in
this modern world. Portraying the historical event that
had happened before.
3. Legalism Legalism is significant in the modern world because
political institutions should be modeled in response to
the realities of human behavior and that human beings
are inherently selfish and short-sighted. Thus social
harmony cannot be assured through the recognition by the
people of the virtue of their ruler, but only through
strong state control and absolute obedience to
authority. The Legalists advocated government by a
system of laws that rigidly prescribed punishments and
rewards for specific behaviors. They stressed the
direction of all human activity toward the goal of
increasing the power of the ruler and the state. This
idea of legalism is being applied in Politics which is
very important in this modern word.
4. Confucianism In this modern world Confucianism promoted virtues,
encompassed by the Five Constants, or the Wuchang
humanness, righteousness, proper rite, knowledge, and
integrity. Its gentleman, or junzi, philosophy has
become the standard of many Chinese people, especially
intellectuals and until now this is being practiced.
Confucianism means a lot not only to China, but also to
the world. Today, extracts from Confucianism are
frequently quoted by foreign dignitaries in their
speeches or talks.
5. Gunpowder Gunpowder has completely changed modern warfare and how
people perceive violence. ... Gunpowder has also
affected the media, as many special effects require
pyrotechnics. The effect it had on science was also
quite important, as gunpowder would help develop the
early understandings of chemistry and physics. The
bullets fired with modern gunpowder have assassinated
world leaders and waged war. They have enabled people to
hunt, defend themselves and attack others, and remain a
significant but controversial agent for change in
society.
