Advanced Warm Up - High Voice:

Read First

***Important Note*** For the best results, do every scale and exercise in this advanced
warm up daily.

Directions:

Each exercise is preceded by an explanation and demonstration. It is strongly recommended

that you listen to each instructional track, at least once. Feel free to refer to them often. Only
sing within your comfortable vocal range. Your range will grow, as the muscle tension fades and
your vocal folds strengthen. Do not attempt to rush the process by pushing, squeezing, or
yelling; that's not the way it works. Through freedom we gain power.

How To Get The Tracks:

The tracks for this Advanced Warm Up are attached to this lesson. We have put them in a .Zip
file for anyone that wants to download them and they are in separate .mp3 files for anyone that
wants to place them on their iPhone, iPad, or Android Phone.

AApproach High/ "Light" Voice Daily Warmup

Tenor, Soprano

Am I a High/"Light" Voice type?

High/ "Light" voice types are coveted by singers of all genres. Due to thinner vocal folds, light
voice types tend to have a fairly easy time releasing into the upper registers. However,
problems commonly occur when trying to sing at loud volumes; prolonged attempts at belting
can soon result in hoarseness, general vocal fatigue, and even nodules. However, if properly
trained, the high voiced singer can enjoy a consistently strong tone with piercing beauty. The
keys to unlocking the full potential of the high voice:

1) Develop the lower body's natural support mechanism.

2) Learn to gain volume through resonance, instead of excessive throat tension.

3) Develop tonal intensity, via balanced breath compression.

Common characteristics of the high voice:

* light, treble, "pure" tonal quality

* Voice feels naturally agile or pliant
* Ease in accessing notes in the upper register
* Prone to strain, when singing at loud volumes
