HABEAS CHORUS VIDEO RECORDING INSTRUCTIONS

“All I Need”

RECORDING
1. ITEMS. For this recording you will need the following things:
a. Your laptop with a functioning webcam (internal or external)
b. Your usb microphone
c. A smartphone or other device to play the backing track
d. Headphones to listen to the backing track while you sing
2. SETUP. Set up your laptop to record, and position yourself in front of a non-cluttered
background, with the camera pointing straight at the wall (no weird angles). The
background does not have to be completely blank, just relatively uncluttered.
a. Please make sure there are no glares, weird shadows, or overexposure with
regard to your lighting.
b. If your laptop camera is potato quality, please reach out to us ASAP. The
best alternative may be to record on your phone camera and record audio
separately. We will provide details on how to do this.
3. AUDIO. Plug in your microphone to your laptop, make sure that your laptop audio input
is set to the microphone.
4. BACKING TRACK. Connect your headphones to the device you will use to listen to the
backing track.
5. START RECORDING. Hit record on your laptop, and start the backing track.
6. INTRO. Follow the “intro” (you’re gonna clap as described below)
a. For the intro you will hear 12 COUNTS in 4/4 time (4 counts per measure)
b. You will clap on the DOWNBEAT (count 1) of measure 2, like so:
i. 1 2 3 4; *CLAP* 2 3 4; 1 2 3 4 *doom bah doot doot doot . . . *
ii. If this doesn’t make sense, listen to the MIDIs! You’ll hear the clap!
c. Make sure your clap is visible and audible!
7. PERFORM. Sing your heart out!
a. LOOK INTO THE CAMERA
b. SMILE/GROOVE
c. DO NOT DEADPAN :|
d. INSTEAD LOOK STOKED :D

e. WAIT AT LEAST 5 SECONDS BEFORE YOU STOP THE RECORDING!!!

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE DETAILS


1. ATTIRE. PLEASE WEAR FUNKY COOL PATTERNS A LA JACOB COLLIER
a. Think cool, colorful striped/geometric/vibrant sweaters/open button ups
b. Examples:
2. LOOK INTO THE CAMERA. This is essential!!! It’s tough to do, but do NOT let your
eyes wander while you are singing. Show that you are engaged and performing.
3. JAZZ IT UP! Have fun! Get into the music! Groove, smile, gesture with your hands if
you’re really feeling it. The more fun you’re having, the more our viewers will have fun
watching our video.
4. KEEP THE AUDIO CLEAN. This means:
a. Quiet breaths
b. No background noise
c. Precise attacks and cutoffs for your notes

UPLOADING
1. SAVE FILE. Save your video file as “[Your Name]_All I Need” (e.g. Victor_All I
Need.mp4).
2. GOOGLE DRIVE. Upload your video file to the appropriate folder according to your
section (or if you are uploading a solo, to the “Solos” folder).
3. MARK THAT YOU’RE DONE. Go to the “All I Need Upload Tracker,” find your name,
and change your fill color to green!
4. CELEBRATE. You did it!!! You practiced the piece, memorized it, and rocked an
amazing performance. Be stoked and stay tuned for the final product to be released.
