Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut is a famous house in the Philippines which is made of bamboo
making it easy to transfer from one place to another. Nowadays, this kind of house can be
commonly seen in the countryside.

Bahay Kubo is also a traditional folklore song that has been pass on from generations to
generations. The song was composed by Felipe Padilla de Leon, the 1997 National Artist
for Music in the Philippines. The song is about describing the Nipa Hut and stating the grown
crops and vegetables in the province.
The lyrics of the song:

Bahay kubo, kahit munti

Nipa hut*, even though it is small,
Ang halaman doon, ay sari sari
The plants that grow around it are varied:
Sinkamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani
Turnip and eggplant, winged bean and peanut
Sitaw, bataw, patani.
String bean, hyacinth bean, lima bean.

Kundol, patola, upo’t kalabasa

Wax gourd, luffa**, white squash and pumpkin,
At saka mayroon pang labanos, mustasa,
And there is also radish, mustard,
Sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya
Onion, tomato, garlic, and ginger
Sa paligid-ligid ay puno ng linga.
And all around are sesame seeds.
