PROTECTING THE ECONOMIC RIGHTS AND SECURITY OF WORKERS
I believe both public and private organizations were established with a vision and a mission. To achieve the set organization's vision and mission, it needs people to carry out its mandates to survive, grow, and build a reputable image. Organizations have different objectives and focus, but what is common and not to be taken for granted is their human objectives. Human objectives are aimed at the well-being as well as the fulfillment of employees’ expectations. If I may summarize the focus of the discussions about "protecting worker's economic rights and security", here are four main ideas that I have learned.
1. Protecting the employees' economic well-being – For employees to
feel more satisfied at work and contribute more for the business, they must be provided with fair remuneration and incentives for performance, benefits fund, pension and other amenities like medical facilities, housing facilities, among others. 2. Social and psychological satisfaction of employees - If employees are happy and satisfied they can put their best efforts in work. Therefore, opportunities for promotion and advancement in career should also be provided to the employees. Further, grievances of employees should be given prompt attention and their suggestions should be considered seriously when decisions are made. 3. Development of human resources -Employees as human beings always want to grow. Their growth requires proper training as well as development. Business can prosper if the people employed can improve their skills and develop their abilities and competencies in course of time. Thus, it is important that business should arrange training and development programs for its Employees. Lastly, 4. Well-being of socially and economically backward people - Business units being inseparable parts of society should help those who are physically and mentally challenged. For instance, vocational training program may be arranged to improve the earning capacity of underprivileged people in the community. While recruiting its staff, business should give preference to physically and mentally challenged persons. They should not be discriminated but encourage to be part of the organization.
Overall since, employees are considered the ‘TALENTS’ of an organization, they
are to be protected and taken care of. Employee’s as talents if satisfied economically, socially, environmentally (safe workplace) and mentally, I strongly believe they can truly be an ASSET to the organization who can bring more value and advantage.
