Chemical engineering field doesn’t just go with the mere proper handling of hazardous materials but

also in introducing ways that protects our environment. With this we have conducted various researches
to come up with a straight solution in order to ease one of the problems faced in our community, and
that is improper treatment of wastewater. Most of the water used by different industries, and even in
our own home are not well treated before being returned to our environment causing tremendous
pollution and risk to our nature. Through this project, we are educating every citizen in our community
regarding the effects of properly treating the wastewater. Our nature may have the naturally capacity of
handling such toxins, but billions of gallons of untreated water from our own home and industries
produced every day is beyond its capacity.

According to WHO and UNICEF, about 10% of water only are being treated while 58% remain
contaminated here in our country. Furthermore, presence of disposal facilities and sludge treatment
from every community are out of hand, thus gallons of domestic water are discharged without proper
treatment. Furthermore, data presented by environmental management bureau (EMB), out of 127
freshwater bodies being studied, 47% were found to showcase good water quality, 40% found to have
only fair water quality and the remaining percentage showed poor quality. Lastly, UNICEF and WHO
release that 4200 number of people die every year due to water contamination. This number is indeed
alarming and could have been prevented only if we showed care and compassion to our environment.

One of the objective that NSTP holds is to prevent further risk of various disasters and hazards to our
community which ought to have be the same with our project. This proposal of ours, aims to showcase
tangible ways to be able to protect and rehabilitate our environment. Furthermore, this will not be
taken into reality without every citizen’s cooperation which interconnects to other objective of the
subject NSTP which strives to promote good citizenship.
Proper wastewater management and treatment is a project that must be given concern by the
government for it doesn’t just hold protection to the environment but also prevents a lot of water
related diseases towards the community. Its main purpose is to upkeep and maintain the cleanliness of
our bodies of water through starting it inside our homes. Likewise, the success of this project will surely
ease issues concerning water contamination diseases and negative effects of improper treatment of
wastewater.

Implementation of this project will carry a relatively big impact towards the community specially if
showcased and done without any objection. This will make every citizen aware of the negative effects of
not treating the water properly and straight up disposing it to our bodies of water. Through this, health
risk associated with wastewater management will run down, hence potential expenses will be
forbidden.

This project may not hold a complete success, but through public coordination, this can be put up to a
bigger picture. Once every citizen gets to learn the proper management of water, officials can host
donation drives to be able to fund a structure and wastewater treatment facilities that can boost the
health of our bodies of water. Sustainability of these acts still rely to the public’s willingness and
discipline.
