DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF GEARLESS

TRANSMISSION

SYNOPSIS

This system demonstrates efficient gearless transmission of power at

any required angle. This saves gear manufacturing time and costs along with
teeth matching and gear placement issues. The elbow mechanism is an
efficient design of gearless transmission technique and the kinematic system
that allows for efficient power/motion transmission at any required angle.
This mechanism allows for motion transmission from 90 degree to 180
degree angles between the driver and the driven shafts. We use mounts to
mount a DC motor with shaft coupled to it. We then use six rods to link
driver shaft with the driven shaft. We use accurate drilling with relatively
spaced and diametered holes to attach the connection rods with precision.
We then use mounts to hold the driven rod in precise position. Now the
motor can be powered using 12V supply and can be used to drive the other
shaft using elbow mechanism.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The project mainly consists of Grease gun, pneumatic cylinder,

lever, grease tank and controller. The pneumatic cylinder is mounted
on the base frame of the machine. The piston rod of the cylinder is
coupled with the lever of the pump. The pump is used for pumping of
the grease from the tank. The output of the grease tank is split into
provide a multipoint output. When the machine is switched ON, the
solenoid valve will be actuated. This makes the Pneumatic cylinder is
to extend and retract. The extension and the retraction of the
pneumatic cylinder will be controlled by the solenoid valve. The
switching of the solenoid valve is done by the control unit. As the
cylinder is actuated the handle of the grease gun attached also
moves produces a pumping action. By this the greasing process
takes place. If the machine is switched ‘OFF’ the switching of the
solenoid valve will be turned OFF, which turns OFF the process
tooThe Gearless transmission or El-bow mechanism is a device for
transmitting

motions at any fixed angle between the driving and driven shaft.
The

synthesis of this mechanism would reveal that it comprises of a

number of

pins would be between 3 to 8 the more the pins the smoother

the operation.

These pins slide inside hollow cylinders thus formatting sliding

pair.Our

mechanism has 3 such sliding pairs. These cylinders are placed

in a Hollow

pipe and are fastened at 120 0 to each other. This whole

assembly is mounted

on brackets wooden table.

Power is supplied by an electric motor. The working of the
mechanism is

understood by the diagram. An unused form of transmission of

The featured product has its widest application as an extension

Gearless

Transmission Today’s world requires speed on each and every

field. Engineers are

constantly confronted to the challenges of efficient transmission

of power. Gears
are costly to manufacture.

It is needed to further increase the efficiency of transmission

which cannot be

done using geared transmission Gearless transmission

mechanism is capable of

transmitting power at any angle without any gears being

manufactured.What Is

Gearless Transmission Also called elbow mechanism It is an

ingenious link

mechanism of slider and kinematic chain principle. Transmits

power at any angle

without utilising gears.

Working Principle Transmits the power between two shafts

whose axes are at

90 degree through bent links. Three links slide relatively

according to the motion

given to input shaft.

MERITS

Ø Complete freedom of Interchangeability. More efficient than gear.

Power could be transferred to any desired angle.

Ø Ease of manufacturing. Misalignment of shafts can be tolerated to some

extent.

Ø Simpler cooling system Low cost of manufacturing. Portability of

parts.

DEMERIT

Ø Does not work at very low starting torque. Improper hole drilling could
pose much problem. Sudden load would cause mechanism breakdown.
Links are to be replaced after certain cycle time.
APPLICATIONS
Ø The model works correctly as per the design With the help of this
system,
we can efficiently reduce the cost in power transmission and Further
advancement in this technology can be made.
