Interviewed through: WhatsApp Voice Call
Interviewed with “Dr. Shahed Ataullah”, a dental surgeon running his own clinic at the age of 27.
Good afternoon!
Q. Would you like to share how you’re providing service to patients in this epidemic?
Answer: “Good afternoon, Nishat!
Well, my chamber was closed for almost 2.5 months and had to struggle a bit to arrange the rent amount along with other expenses.
However, by the Almighty’s mercy, we have had a good number of patients in the last 3 months. This COVID-19 period has been
tough as the products we are using for safety purpose are quite expensive and we are not even checking on more than 3 patients per
day. So, you can assume already that the time is not at all good for anyone.”
Q. Tell me more about Bluetooth Dental, is there anything or any story that inspired you to set up your own chamber?
Answer: “Honestly, I was an average student in undergrad days and you might not know that some teachers in medical colleges are
not that cooperative. I am not saying they are bad or unqualified but they just liked to criticize and screw anyone anytime. Once or
twice I had to listen to criticism for not being ‘the nerd’ that a medical student is supposed to be. So, there were people from relatives
and institutions who used to pull my leg in front my parents and outside by saying “chele ar pass korse!” “shorkari te chance paini,
taka noshto kore beshorkari te poracchen”.
There were times during my internship when I had to pled to teachers to recruit me to work under them but due to lack of internal
connection or link through political parties or family connection, I was neglected in many places. On the other hand, I was one of the
students among 50 who have graduated on one-go. The main point is that, there’s a saying that ‘Things happen for good’, I believe
that firmly. Yes, I had to go through a hard phase after my graduation but If I didn’t have that stage I wouldn’t have realized or had
the stubbornness inside me to start my own dental chamber right away.
Now, Alhamdulillah, I can proudly say that I am running ‘Bluetooth dental clinic’ at the age of 27 with 2 specialist who works with
me and 6 other employees.”
Q. Are you enjoying this profession? If “yes”, what do you enjoy the most and if the answer is “no” which specific thing
you dislike and why?
Answer: “Definitely, I love my job. Being the owner and working for the people of the country was my dream from the very
beginning. Today, every day I have to deal with different oral problems of human beings and find out easy and quick solution to
provide them utmost ease and satisfaction. Actually, I was always against jobs where you have the same work starting from 9AM to
5PM. So, the experience I have gathered in the last 4 years motivated me to study more in order to gather more knowledge and help
the people to smile with no fret.”
Q. Is there any specific change that you bought in the business currently and any lessons you have learned along the
way?
Answer: “I had my first chamber in Tejgaon and then in Mohammadpur where authentic dental surgeon was less in number. In 2017,
I have taken experience with limited resources and then my goal was to come up with better modernized dental equipment and
machineries for patients and place a chamber in Gulshan avenue. Hereby, currently, I have been able to get along with the
technologies and hoping to keep my chamber updated to provide customers with premium quality service.
Another thing you asked about lessons if I am not wrong. Umm, yes, I would say the competition in all business sector is within
oneself, the goal should be to improve thyself by taking lessons from every single deed of life.”
Q. Being a young entrepreneur, could you tell me about the difficulties you had to face in this competitive dental profession? How did
you overcome the above challenges?
Answer: “To be honest, when I had my chamber in Tejgaon, I did not understand the importance to keep trade license papers up-to-
date and other safety precaution were not taken into account. However, being in a more competitive area in Gulshan, I have
understood the necessity to keep workplace safe, healthy and friendly. The standardized environment and good quality service
ensured a strong relationship between us and our customers.
Additionally, one of our important work is to keep patients update every month by asking for their feedback after the treatment and
then evaluate our quality and skills accordingly. As I believe, there’s no shame in making slight errors when you have the
opportunity to learn and rectify.”
Q. COVID-19 had a significant impact most companies, do you agree? What are the safety measures you have taken side for
yourself, customers and employees in the chamber?
Answer: “COVID-19 have increased our work [Sigh]. We provide PPE gowns covering head, feet, hands to all patients and make
them wear new mask as soon as they enter our premises. My assistant ensures that they are fully sanitized before starting the
treatment. After we are done checking a patient, we make sure that the beds are sprayed and tools are changed. Class V autoclave
and Vac station are used for the safety of all Bluetooth family. I am also using goggles, face shield and all other protective
equipment. Moreover, we are taking patients health history before confirming their appointment and measuring their temperature as
soon as they enter.”
Q. Do you feel you have already reached your goal you had for the business?
Answer: [Laughs] “Reminds me of one of the line from the poem “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening” by Robert Frost which is
‘there are promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep’. In my words, there are miles to go, to improve and to bring in changes
and want to contribute more in the public health sector of Bangladesh.”
Q. Would you like to share briefly about the other specialist in your chamber?
Answer: “I thought you checked my website before coming to the interview. Oh well, I am just joking [giggles]. Let me come to the
point, our dental has 2 clinical directorate. I am the Chief Dental Surgeon in root canal treatment and aesthetic dentistry. We have Dr.
Josepha Elizabeth, the specialist in children dentistry and 3 other oral surgery doctors graduated from renowned medical college and
vast experience.”
Q. What skills do you look for in an employee in the following field: assistant, administrative assistant, data entry?
Answer: “Mostly, I look for people who have had work experience in this field and applicants with diploma in dental surgery are
welcomed.”
Q. Are there any interesting stories or achievements that you’re willing to share which also had an impact in your career? Do you
think you were able to bring changes in the medical industry by your presence?
Answer: “Well, firstly, the word ‘memorable’ reminds me of a very personal story which is my spouse was my patient once and this
platform united us in the beginning.
Secondly, if you ask me about achievement, there are plenty of them, Alhamdulillah. One of them is the memories from 2018 when
we visited a school named International Islamic Academy to provide ‘School oral health program’ to students. The program was for
2days where we have given free checkup to kids and taught them different oral techniques on food hygiene and brushing technique
as well. I have given free cards to those students by which they will provided with free treatment for 1 year anytime in my chamber.
The response was just overwhelming and the customer feedback and satisfaction inspired me to sharpen my skills for the long run.
Lastly, as you know there’s many bigger dental chambers which are pretty expensive in Gulshan with highly qualified doctors and
junior doctors working under them. So, my aim is to have 3 specialists in different fields including me and we are looking forward to
provide good quality service to patients at a reasonable price with the advanced machineries available and keep a lasting impact in
their heart. The aim is not to bestow all responsibilities to assistants as we are fully prepared to give treatments with our own hands
ensuring 100% satisfaction in return.”

Health Program” techniques
Q. Is there anything that you would like to convey to the new dental interns?
Answer: Surely, I would say that knowledge has no end and, in this field, you will have to add something every day in your own
book of knowledge because giving more priority in clinical skills over knowledge is not a wise decision.
Q. So, what is the next step or aim for Bluetooth Dental?
Answer: One thing I would like to share that it was my dream to go for a Master’s Degree in Oral and maxillofacial surgery so you
can say my next aim is to learn about this field and work on it afterwards. The next step for Bluetooth Dental Point is to relocate it in
a bigger place somewhere around Gulshan avenue, expanding it is the next aim and then brining in modern tools and technologies
to reduce the rate of critical patients going abroad for better treatment.
Thank you so much for your time and cooperation. Now, the floor is yours, I would like to hear questions from you
regarding the interview session!
