Traditional or modern clothing?

In the past, people wore clothes more

closely related to their culture but
today people are more likely to wear
clothes from all over the world. Is this
a positive or negative development?

As cross-cultural awareness of diverse trends grows, so
does international clothing trends. Observing
this phenomenon there is an increasing debate about
whether people should wear traditional clothes from their
cultures or not. People tend to ask themselves if this is
positive or negative for every independent culture. My
perspective on this matter is that comfort plays an
important factor in selecting daily clothing and having
worldwide trends increase a vast sense of unity. Below, the
following essay will demonstrate arguments in favor of
wearing the same clothes all around the globe.
Firstly, comfort plays a significant factor when an
individual is buying any piece of clothing. Unfortunately,
traditional clothing is not always practical. Depending on
the country’s weather or environment they could be
extremely uncomfortable to wear. As an illustration, the
old Indians from the North of Mexico are the
perfect epitome. The women from the old-
fashioned Indian community tend to wear beautiful and
colorful long dresses. Bright colors such as pink, red,
green, and yellow are used in wonderful patterns.
However, in the desert area of the North of Mexico, these
are non-practical outfits. The hot weather plus the lack
of efficient mobility are negative outcomes of this
wonderful cultural heritage.
Secondly, worldwide clothing trends create a major sense
of global unity. In today’s modern
world advancements in fields such as transportation,
make the possibility to travel overseas an
increasing ordinary event. Nowadays a major number of
young adults are finding scholarships to study abroad
in developed countries. Likewise, thanks to the
internet, which allows us to connect with
employers worldwide, more people are acquiring the
opportunity to gain working experience in other nations.
Having the same clothing trends allow humans to connect
easily with other cultures. The case of the brothers Mony
and Molly from Colorado in 2019 is the perfect illustration
of the sense of unity in clothing. These brothers were
separated during their birth. Molly was taken to China by
mistake, they found themselves on Facebook and were
reunited by Oprah. Molly said during his Oprah’s
interview, ‘’The first thing that came to my mind when I
saw him was that we were alike, we were even wearing the
same clothes’’. The fact that this individual is impressed by
the clothing is an illustration of global identity.
In conclusion, today people wear clothing comfortable and
practical. Even though traditional clothes are the heritage
of our cultures, daily life comfort is more important
than tradition. Likewise, wearing the same clothes around
the world give a sense of unity in academic, professional,
and personal fields.
