LESSON 1 – GLOBALIZATION
In my own perception, globalization is an aspect that has tremendous effect on every individuals’ lives.
From waking up in the morning, from watching televesion or listening to radio news, from entering to school, talking
to other people, from eating wtih friends and family – globalization impacted our daily lives as well as how we
beahave and communicate towards other people. Globalizatiom has something to do with connecting people, goods,
news and ideas and such. It makes the world smaller and connected through sharing ideas and informations as well
as norms and cultures. In globalization, people easily share infomations and ideas from one country to another. It
also makes the exhange of goods (exportaion and importation) easier. Unlike before, people would actually ride and
do exchange goods manually. Media is also one of the effect of globalization, unlike before people would send their
mails and messages through manual messenger to recieve and deliver messages but now, in just typing and in just
one click in cellphones or in watching in televesion and listening to radio, we can access news and we can connect
ourselves with people around the globe.
Task 2. Decide whether you agree or disagree to the following statements on what globalization is. Tick the
corresponding column.
Globalization is ..... Agree Disagree
• A process of interaction among people and culture in Asian countries. ✓
• A current wave that has been driven by policies that have opened economies ✓
domestically and internationally.
• A tendency of international trade, investments, information technology adn in- ✓
sourced manufacturing to weave the economies of diverse countries together.
• A worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, communication ✓
integration.
• An expansion and acceleration in the exchange of products around the world. ✓
Task 4. Share with your team members the benefits and challenges brought by globalization. Then comment
how you can address these challenges.
Globalization affects the ways of life in our community in terms of clothing, speaking, living, thinking, and
among other things. The first is clothes; because we have learnt how different cultures dress, it has also influenced
how people dress in our area. some would dress as if it were winter, and some would dress like their idols and
celebrities from other countries. In terms of speaking, we Filipinos are amazed by how Koreans make their dramas,
which we refer to as "K-dramas." Some avid viewers are slowly adopting the way actors and actresses in K-dramas
speak. They would enjoy studying the pronunciations and such. Many Filipinos find it fascinating how Americans
live once they are of legal age, and they consider it "independent living," where if you are of legal age and have the
means to support yourself, you can rent an apartment and live accordingly. Many individuals today are drawn to the
style of thinking of Westerners, who believe that everything is predetermined by yourself, as a result of the influence
of media and technology. There is no absolute standard of what is right and wrong. To normalize things as much as
you give importance to yourself.
I, Armarose B. Daradal, promise to my family that I will only share with them the good and positive impacts of
globalization. I will always make sure to share the things that would strengthen and improve my bonds with my family
and help me with them. I will also make sure to use the internet and technological devices only for academic purposes
while also fostering relationships with my classmates, professors, as well as other school personnel. And throughout
the community, to disseminate information, news, and ideas that will make our neighborhood even better.
Lesson 2. MULTICULTURAL LITERACIES
Task 1. Decide whether you agree or disagree to the following statements on what multicultural literacy is. Tick the
right column. Discuss with your partner about your stand.
Task 2. With the knowledge learned from the aforementioned input, carefully analyze the following literatures.
Choose one and share with the class on how it affects you as a student who is product of multiculturalism.
This specific literature from Africa made me realize things about globalization and multicultural literacy. This story
shows the diversity and uniqueness of each one of us. If we, by any chance met people who do not share the same
way of living, culure or beliefs, we should still accept them wholeheartedly. Because individual’s diveristy and
uniqueness is what the world makes it even more beautiful to dwell in. Imagine if all the countriesa and people share
the same culture, beliefs, way of living or thinking and such, our world would be lifeless and boring. We should
accept people as the way they are. We should not change or force our beliefs from whatever they believe in, or impose
our tradition to them. We should always accept and respect one’s diveristy and uniqueness.
“If we want to make more and build relationships and friendships, we have to learn to accept each other’s faults
as well as each other’s goog qualities.”
Task 3. With the knowledge on globalization and multicultural literacy, choose one national/global issue from a
reading material (simply write its main idea and source) then decide how it can help you become part of the global
community.
This global issue encourages me to do my part as a student and soon future educator. I will enourage people
to embrace our identity as Filipinos. As Filipinos, we are accommodating and hospitable to our visitors and even with
foreign visitors. We, filipinos are also very resilient in times of calamity and challenges. Filipinos are also humurous
- we always try to look for the brighter and funny side. Those and other qualities are what makes and known us as
Filipinos. And those should not be taken away from us.
Task 4. Write a personal account or create a short story with a theme on multiculturalism. After which, write your
reflection/ realization on the space provided below.
This story that I am about to share is based on my personal experience. I have a friend who do not share my personal
beliefs and our way of living is absolutely different. I admit that there was a time when i forced her to believe in what
I believe in, and everytime she does the opposite of what i prefer to live and behave towards other people, I get mad.
And then later on, I came to realize that we are different from each other. My character, personality, way of thinking
and behaving is far different from hers. We are diverse and unique in our own way. Now, I have learned to accept her
and embrace who she is without trying to change a bit of herself. And as I read this subject about globalization and
multiculturalism, things ger clearer and clearer... that whatever beliefs a person has, or culture she has and life she
lives in, we have to accept and respect whatever it is. Because acceptance is equevalent of loving other people as well.
Diversity has always been beautiful, its people who are not satisfied and content on they qualities they have.
