BAWANG PUTIH AND BAWANG MERAH

Once upon a time, there was a little family that consist of father, mother, and one daughter. Her name is
Bawang Putih. They were a happy family. Although her father is a merchant, they lived peacefully. One
day, her mother was sick and then passed away. Bawang Putih and her father were so sad.
Bawang Putih : "Dad, why mom leave us so fast?"
Daddy : "That is a God's plan"
Bawang Putih : "Hmm..okay dad"

In that village lived a widow that has one daugher. Her name was Bawang Merah. Since Bawang Putih's
mother passed away, Bawang merah mother's often visited Bawang Putih's house. She often brought a
food, helped Bawang Putih to make up her house and also accompanied bawang putih and her father to
represent her mother.

Bawang Merah's mother : "Bawang Putih, here's some food for you"
Bawang Putih : "Thank you, ma'am"
Bawang Merah's mother : "You're welcome. Goodbye Bawang Putih."
Daddy : "Please send my greeting to Bawang Merah."
Bawang merah's mother : "Okay."

At the ends Bawang Putih's father thought that if he married Bawang Merah's mother it would be better
for them. So he invited Bawang Merah and her mother to discuss about it.
Daddy : "Bawang Putih, what do you think if I marry Bawang merah's mother? Do you agree with me?"
Bawang putih : "That's okay dad. I agree with you."
Daddy : "And how about you, Bawang Merah do you agree with me ?"
Bawang merah :" of course. I agree with you."

At first, bawang merah and her mother were kind to bawang putih, but as time goes by they shew up
their real character. They often scolded bawang putih and gave her a lot of works. Sadly, bawang putih's
father didn't know that.
Mother : "putih, you must sweep and mop the floor, wash the dishes and clean all over the house!"
Putih : "okay mom."
Merah : "putih, you must clean my messy room too! Don't forget it!"
Putih : "okay, I'll do it."

One day, bawang putih father's was sick and passed away so her father talked to bawang putih.
Dad : "bawang putih, I feel that I can handle it anymore. My illness is getting worse day by day"
Putih : "daddy please don't leave me!!"
Dad : "if I pass away please be a good girl."
Putih : " yes,dad."
Dad : "Honey, please take care of our daugher."
Mom : "yes ,honey."
Putih : " dad, daddy. Please don't leave me."

Since that bawang merah and her mother treated bawang putih more cruelly until she can't take a rest.
Mom : "putih, you must wake up early to cook breakfast, feed the cattle, water the plants, wash the
clothes at the river and iron them. You also have to clean the house. Understand?!"
Putih : "yes mom, i understand."

But bawang putih always do it by heart because she hoped one day her mom would loved her as she
loved her daughter. At the morning, bawang putih brought the basket of clothes into the river to wash
them.

In Sunny day, Bawang putih washed all the nasty clothes at the river. Bawang putih was unaware
because one of her stepmother's clothes washed away. It was her stepmother's favorite cloth so
Bawang putih tried to find it.
Bawang putih :"I must find it because it is mom's favorite cloth"

But, Bawang putih couldn't find it. She decided to back home and told to her stepmother.
Bawang putih : 'i'm sorry Mom, your cloth has washed away'
Stepmother : 'what? You're very careless. I don't want to know! You must find it! Don't go back home if
u don't find it'

Bawang putih was forced to obey her stepmother. She went down the river where she washed. Day
became noon, but she had not found the clothes yet. Bawang putih saw a woman that went to the
market.
Bawang putih : "Excuse me Ma'am"
Woman : "yes, can I help you?'
Bawang putih : 'Do you see a red cloth? Because I must find and take it home"
Woman : "ohh yes, i saw it a few minutes ago. Maybe it washed away too far"
Bawang putih : "emm.. okay. Thankyou Ma'am"
Woman : "You're welcome"

Day changed into night. Bawang putih was hopeless to find her stepmother's cloth. She saw a small hut
so she went to it.
Bawang putih : "Excuse me" (knocked the door)
Old Lady : (Open the door) "Who are you?"
Bawang Putih : "My name is Bawang Putih. I was looking my mom's clothes and now benighted. Can I
stay here tonight?"
Old Lady : "Your mom's cloth got caught in front of my house and i loved that clothes. I will give it back
to you if you stay here for a week"
Bawang putih : "Yes I do"

Bawang putih helped the Old Lady everyday and make her happy.
*After a week
Old lady : "I will give you some gift and u can bring your mom's clothes. You can choose one of these"
Bawang Putih : "No thanks ma'am"
Old Lady : 'Please choose one"
Bawang putih : "Okay, I choose the small one'
Old Lady : "Why do you choose the small one?"
Bawang Putih : “ I'm afraid that I won't be able to bring the big one, Grandma."
Old lady : ( smile )

When she got home, Bawang Putih handed over her stepmother's red dress
Bawang Putih: "Mother, this is your dress"
Mother: "Yes there has gone"
Bawang putih : "Fine, ma'am! "

Bawang putih went to the kitchen and split the pumpkin. She was surprised after saw there was a lot of
gold and gems inside the split of pumpkin.
Bawang Putih : “ mom, i get gold and jewel"

Bawang merah dan her stepmother immediately snatched that gold and jewel
Bawang Merah : “ Hei, poor. where do you get that gold and jewel ?
Mom : “ Yes. Where do you get it?
Bawang Putih : “I get that gold and jewel from..."
Bawang Merah : “ where have you been? ? “
Bawang Putih : “ At that time, I was looking for my mother's clothes that has washed away, then I
spend the night at an old lady's house near the river, and she told me to accompany her for a week,
after that she gave me this gift "

After heard Bawang putih's story, bawang merah had plan to do the same thing as Bawang Putih did.
Mom : “ Bawang Merah you must do as that damn kid do"
Bawang Merah : “Oke mom! “
Mom : “ So, tomorrow you must go to the river “
Bawang Merah : “ ok mom ! “

the next day, bawang merah was washed away the clothes in the river. After that, she reached in the
Old lady's house.
Bawang Merah : “ excuse me, do you know the clothes that washed away?
Old lady : “ I know, but you must stay in here for a week"
Bawang Merah : “okay ! “

In a week, Bawang Merah always was being lazy, if she did something, the result would not be good
because she did it carelessly. Finally, after a week the old lady let bawang merah back to her house.
Bawang Merah : “ shouldn't you give me a pumpkin because I have stayed here for a week just
for accompaning you?"
Old lady : “yes you have to choose one of these pumpkins !”
Bawang Merah : ( take the big one, then leave )

Arriving at Bawang Merah's house, she immediately met her mother and showed her the pumpkin that
she had got. Because Bawang Merah was affraid that Bawang putih ask for it so they told her to go to
the river.

Mom : “ Putih, go to the river to wash the dirty clothes

Bawang Putih : “ yes mom ! “

After Bawang Putih left them, they sliced that pumpkin but inside it there was no gold but venomous
animals like snakes. Snakes immediately attacked Bawang Merah and her mother until they died. That
was the reward for a greedy person.
