“You reckless thing!” his stepmother snapped.

"I don't want to know, anyway you have to look

for those clothes! And don't you dare go home if you haven't found it. Understand?"

Bawang Putih was forced to obey her stepmother's wishes. He quickly washed down the river
where earlier. The sun was starting to rise, but Bawang Putih had not yet found her mother's
clothes. He kept his eyes open, carefully checked every root that jutted out into the river, in case
his mother's clothes got caught there.

After walking a long way and the sun was leaning towards the west, Bawang Putih saw a
shepherd who was bathing his buffalo. So Bawang Putih asked: "O good uncle, did you see the
red clothes drifting through here? Because I have to find him and bring him home.” "Yes, I saw it
earlier, son. "If you chase it quickly, maybe you can catch up," said the uncle.

"Okay uncle, thank you!" said Bawang Putih and immediately ran back along. It was getting
dark, Bawang Putih was starting to despair. Soon night would fall, from a distance lights could be
seen coming from a hut on the river bank. Bawang Putih immediately approached the house
and knocked on it.

"Excuse me…!" said Bawang Putih. An old woman opened the door.

"Who are you kid?" asked the grandmother.

“I'm Bawang Putih, Grandma. Earlier I was looking for my mother's clothes which had been
washed away. And now it's late. Can I stay here tonight?” asked Bawang Putih.

"Yes, daughter. Is the shirt you are looking for red?" Grandma asked.

"Yes, Grandma. Did…grandmother find it?” asked Bawang Putih.

"Yes. The clothes had been stuck in front of my house. "It's a shame, even though I like that
dress," said the grandmother. "Okay, I'll return it, but you have to accompany me here for a
week. It's been a long time since I chatted with anyone, how about it?” asked grandma. Bawang
Putih thought for a moment. The grandmother looked lonely. Garlic also felt sorry. "Okay
grandma, I will accompany grandma for a week, as long as grandma doesn't get bored with me,"
said Bawang Putih with a smile.

For a week Bawang Putih lived with the grandmother. Every day Bawang Putih helps with
grandma's housework. Of course, the grandmother was happy. Until finally it had been a week,
grandma called for garlic

“daughter, you've been living here for a week. And I'm happy because you are a diligent and filial
child. Therefore, according to my promise, you can bring your mother's clothes home. And one
more thing, you can choose one of these two yellow pumpkins as a gift!" said grandma.
At first Bawang Putih refused to be given a gift but grandmother still forced her. Finally Bawang
Putih chose the smallest pumpkin. "I'm afraid I won't be able to carry the big one," he said.
Grandma smiled and delivered Garlic to the front of the house.

Arriving home, Bawang Putih handed over her stepmother's red shirt while she went to the
kitchen to cut open the pumpkin. What a surprise Garlic was when the pumpkin was split open,
inside it turned out to be filled with a lot of gold and gems.

She screamed with joy and told this miraculous thing to his stepmother and Bawang Merah who
greedily snatched the gold and jewels. They forced Bawang Putih to tell how she could get the
prize. Bawang Putih also told the truth.

Hearing Bawang Putih's story, Bawang Merah and her mother planned to do the same thing but
this time Bawang Merah would do it. In short, the shallots finally arrived at the old
grandmother's house on the edge of the river. Like Bawang Putih, shallots were asked to
accompany him for a week. Unlike the diligent garlic, during the week the shallots just lazed
around.

Even if something is done, the results are never good because it is always done haphazardly.
Finally, after a week, the grandmother allowed Bawang Merah to leave. “Shouldn't grandma give
me a pumpkin as a gift for accompanying you for a week?” asked the Bawang Merah. The
grandmother was forced to tell Bawang Merah to choose one of the two pumpkins offered.
Bawang Merah quickly took a large pumpkin and without saying thank you, she walked away.

Arriving at home, Bawang Merah immediately met her mother and happily showed her the
pumpkin she had brought. Because they were afraid that Bawang Putih would ask for a share,
they told Bawang Putih to go to the river. Then they impatiently split that pumpkin.

But it turned out that it was not gold gems that came out of the gourd, but poisonous animals
such as snakes, scorpions, and so on. The animals immediately attacked Bawang Merah and her
mother until they died. That is the reward for those who are greedy.
