The last two paragraphs create a feeling of fear because we know somebody is coming down the
stairs into the cellar where all the animals are. Phrases such as ‘the animals froze’, ‘their ears pricked’
and ‘their bodies tense’ show a feeling of fear.

The author chose to mention the woman at the end of the character so the reader wants to find out
