location. In addition, the system can check for an alternative form of production—for
example, Product Data Structure or Production Process Model (PDS or PPM).
Rules-based available-to-promise (ATP) provides a number of other functions—for example,
consolidation location, multi-item single delivery location, and temporary plant substitutions.
As a result, you can automate what was previously a manual process—search for availability
in your supply chain—and adjust it according to your company requirements.
The rules-based availability check is an iterative process. In every case, the rules stored in the
system and the corresponding check results determine the next steps.
For example, the check can have the following subsequent steps:
● Product substitution
● Location substitution
● PDS or PPM substitution—if production is started
In the figure, Integrated Rule Maintenance: Objectives, all subsequent steps of the check span
the three-dimensional area. You can move in any direction and combine any dimensions.
For example, you can:
● Procure or substitute from an alternative location.
● Produce in another plant.
If the system has carried out a substitution (for example, product or product and location;
characteristic substitution), an ATP check is carried out on the substitute using basic
methods.
