1. Where do the little girls meet? How does the place look like?
Ans. The little girls met in a lane between two houses, where the dirty water from the farm had run
down the lane to form a large puddle.
Ans. When the men came out of their houses they saw their women quarrelling with each other, so
they too join the fight.
3. What did Akulya's grandmother say to try and calm the crowd when she saw the girls playing together
again?
Ans. When Akulya's grandmother saw the little girls running in great delight, trying to catch the stream,
she shouted at the crowd who were fighting on account of the girls. She told them that the girls were
much wiser than the grown ups.
Ans. When the grown ups heard grandmother's remarks they were ashamed of their behaviour, they
went back home laughing at themselves.

Ans. When Akulya’s mother scolded Malasha she started do howl loudly so that she could be heard all
down the street, this stunned her mother who came out immediately. When she found out the reason
she became furious and the two ladies started fighting with each other.

Ans. After a little displeasure, both the girls started playing again. Seeing them together, grandmother
rebuked the crowd for their immature behaviour, thus making them realise their foolishness and stop
fighting
