Float switches

1 Area of application
Float switches with one or two switching contacts are installed within oil reservoirs to open or close a
contact as the oil reaches pre-determined level. This allow s an installation to be shut down or an alarm to
be activated.
The switching levels are fixed. They cannot be altered.

3 Operation
When the float, with a drop in oil level, reaches its contact then the contacts are magnetically operated. The
floats are either, at the top or bottom, so limited that they cannot travel past the contact or bistable contacts
are used.
The switched position of the contacts are maintained until the float e.g. due to a rise in oil level returns to its
initial position..
