Digital Teaching Philosophy

I believe it is crucial that educators understand the differences of incorporating

technology in the classroom and utilizing traditional teaching ways. It is important that educators

know the limits under which their students learn best and how they can manipulate their teaching

strategies in order to benefit students’ learning the most. The teaching philosophies that I

resonate with the most are Essentialism and Progressivism. In my opinion, it is vital that teachers

try to embed traditional moral values amongst the students while also encouraging that

exploration of new experiences will facilitate acquiring new knowledge. The ISTE Standards for

Education mentions many top tier standards that all educators should follow and take into

consideration. There are three that I think are by far the most important to note: the leader,

collaborator, and facilitator.

The standard regarding role of the leader is where an educator seeks to distribute

opportunities for leadership to support students. Notably, as the educator takes charge of being

that beginning step and distributor for their students, it will ultimately enforce far more

exploration, curation, and adoption of new resources or tools for learning, especially ones that

are digital. Being the initial wave will push and empower students and other colleagues to

follow. Another standard is the role of the collaborator, which incorporates ideas surrounding

educators dedicating time to help other colleagues and students. This promotes improvement in

practice and sharing resources or ideas that are curated. Collaborating with others helps

individuals grow together and stronger. Creating authentic learning experiences that suffice

technology and help students co-collaborate with each other is extremely important to the overall

development of the classroom. Without working together with others and collaborating efforts,

many classrooms would not have the space thrive and grow the way they would like to. The last
standard that I would like to note is the role of the facilitator. Educators are to act as facilitators

when it comes to learning with technology. By fulfilling this title, educators are able to enforce

and advance students to take ownership of their specific learning goals and outcomes they would

like to achieve. Being a facilitator allows students to engage in the use of technology, helping

them create strategies in digital platforms. All three standards that have been discussed are

highly intertwined with each other and work together to allow for effective teaching.

To conclude, it is crucial that educators take into consideration the many curated ideas,

strategies, and outcomes that will allow their class to function at a level where the classroom

becomes a collaborative, facilitated, and comfortable environment for all students. Technology is

to be explored and used for the sake of the students’ learning at a rate that is not damaging to the

students themselves. When all ideas and strategies come together, the educator is fit to create a

perfect harmony for the classroom in which students are able to thrive and grow.
