Managerial Roles in Organization
Class Activity
Q1. Most of us have to work for living, and job is a central part of our lives.
So why do managers have to worry so much about employee motivation
issues?
Answer: In our society most of people care only about their monthly or daily salary instead of
caring about completion of work. They pay attention to money instead of the source of money.
Therefore a manager has to worry much about employee motivation issues because he is the
person answerable to the owner about completion of work. No doubt it is a social dilemma for us
but it is the reality hard to accept by anyone. Therefore motivation of the employee is the core
corner of attention for a manager or a company owner.
Less employee motivation leads to high employee turnover. Managers who take less interest in
employee’s interest and motivation they have to face problems regarding their replacements.
Unmotivated employees prove very expensive for the organization as they do not work
effectively and efficiently, they can quit the organization whenever they want to, they also have a
negative impact on other employees too.

Q2. Many job design experts who have studied the changing nature of work
say that people do their best work when they're motivated by a sense of
purpose rather than by the pursuit of money. Do you agree? Explain your
position.
Answer: Motivation is the feeling to do a job/work enthusiastically and passionately. It is a
passion rather than a simple feeling. It is the foremost and important thing required to complete a
job/work. I agree with the above statement that best work is the one which is carried out when an
employee or a worker is motivated by a sense of purpose. Because when quality of work is his
priority, he will do it with his best. When it is in his mind that his work should get liked by
others, he will do it more passionately. Comparatively when a person’s motivation depends upon
the money he would get, his core attention will be towards completion of work instead of quality
of work completed. Therefore best work is the one which is completed with a motivation for a
purpose.

Q3. If you ask people why a given individual is a leader, they tend to describe
the person in terms such as competent, consistent, self-assured, inspiring a
shared vision, and enthusiastic. In your opinion, describe that how do these
descriptions fir in with leadership concepts.
Indeed all of these terminologies perfectly define the concept of leadership. As a leader, you
need to have all those sufficient skills, knowledge and qualifications towards your particular
domain. This will provide a leader an authoritative ability and command over others, making you
a competent person.
Similarly, being consistent and self assured also play the key role in defining a leader. A leader
needs not only to have a firm faith on one own self but also need to be resilient and consistent
enough to ensure that the ultimate goal is achieved.
Lastly, being inspiring and enthusiastic is what makes a leader outshine others. Eagerness and
excitement of a leader, towards a goal helps in motivating the team in a more zealous and
passionate way. When a leader is inspiring, one stimulate influence over the teams emotions and
helps in elevating and maintaining the creativity among its team members.
