Lesson Objective:

After reading the book, Once Upon a Northern Night, and viewing the video
(https://youtu.be/UbE3ccX1LEw) of the book, the 3rd graders will individuallycomplete a venn diagram
for two animals from the story with at least 5 descriptors of the in each section of the diagram.
Procedures:

1. Before reading, do a picture walk through the book, Once Upon a Northern Night, with the
class.
2. Read the book, Once Upon a Northern Night, with the students.
3. Show the video of the book with the students.
4. Discuss the each animal, where they came from, and what they did in the book with the
students.
5. The students will be introduced to the Venn diagram assignment.
6. The students will work independently on their Venn diagram.
7. The students will have class sharing time to share their Venn diagram.
8. At the end of class they will submit them to the teacher.
