OGL 482
Professor Wilson
Introduction
The purpose of this qualitative research was to find direction and meaning in the pursuit of my work-life balance and happiness. It should be
noted that the special subject is me, my ambition was to dive deep and discover the meaning behind my research. Importantly, I was looking
for puzzle pieces to help me put together a thorough research project with well-supported data points. My research consists of rich data from
multiple assessments taken over the course of my ASU Organizational Leadership Program. Furthermore, I will showcase the process and
methods I used to compile my unique data into 10 different life themes.

Methods:
• After identifying my most meaningful assessments I thoroughly analyzed my data to have a clear understanding of what is telling me.

• I coded my data by using simple and tentative themes to organize my information.

• Afterward, I had to re-group my data to have strong supportive data for my themes.

• Next, I constructed the final themes based on my supportive data.

The data that I used came from multiple resources that brought value into my life, such as my Life Story Personal Narrative, Three Questions,
Kuder Assessments, Career Anchors Assessment, Personality Self-Assessment “Temperament Types”, Emotional Intelligence Assessments,
the Indigo Assessment- Skills & Strengths, etc… In the following slides, you will find a well-organized Key/Legend slide with all the various
assessments I used for my research. The most challenging aspect that I encountered during the coding process was identifying the true
meaning in order to come up with relevant themes in my life. The following 10 life themes consist of meaningful principles, values, and turning
points in my life that make me who I’m today.
Data Sources
This is a brief description of all of the self-assessments/reflections from OGL 482 Pro-Seminar II and other self-
assessments that I used:

• Three Questions (3Qs)- In this reflective exercise I responded meaningfully to 3 questions by Father Himes. What gives me joy?
What am I good at? What does the world need me to do?
• Identities Exercise (IE)- This exercise required of me to reflect on how my roles/identities influenced how I see myself.

• Values and Dreams (VD)- Consisted of a worksheet to discover underlying meaning through exploring my dreams and desires.
Apart from this, I made connections between what I desire and my inner sense of purpose.

• Life Story Personal Narrative (LSPN)-This reflective exercise required that I create a substantial narrative of my life story from
birth to the present day. Additionally, throughout the retelling of my story, we were required to identify major themes which have
persisted throughout our life.

• Kuder Assessments, which include-

• Kuder Career Interests Assessment® (Kuder Career)- This assessment required of me to connect my top interest with
career paths. Furthermore, I highlighted “aha-moments” to particular career interests that stuck out to me.

• Kuder Skills Confidence Assessment® (Kuder Skills)- This assessment led me to identified my top skills to make
connections with my Holland code, occupations to explore and majors to explore.

• Super’s Work Values Inventory-revised (Kuder Values)- This assessment led me to identified my top work values and to
make connections with different occupations to explore.

• Career Anchors Assessment (CAA)- Served the purpose to define which of my needs has the highest priority, which of the factors
in my work lives I may not be willing to give up on.
Data Sources con’t
• 16 Personality Characteristics, NERIS Types Explorer (PC)- In this assessment I had to be myself and answer honestly to find out
my personality type. I learned how my personality type influences many areas of my life.

• Organizational Citizenship Behavior Assessment (OCB)- In this assessment I had the opportunity to learn about the different types
of citizenship behavior, and look at my own voluntary behaviors in the workplace

• DISC Personality Test (DISC) - This assessment requires users to select two answers from a series of statement clusters, one which
they find most accurate to their personality and one which they believe is least accurate as to their personality. Each statement has a
corresponding value which generates a score for the user in four categories: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance.

• Personality Self-Assessment “Temperament Types” (TT)- This assessment required of me to test my temperament types of
personality in leadership roles.

• Emotional Intelligence Assessments (EIA)- In this assessment I had to take notes of what I would consider my strengths and
weaknesses in terms of emotional intelligence. Certainly, it is a crucial leadership skills to have the ability to understand and respect
how different people with different backgrounds and world-views think, feel, and behave.

• Indigo Assessment- Skills & strengths (IA)- This assessment is a tool to guide me through my college and career future. Really
thinking about how my strengths show up in my life, how can I bring those out into the world, to achieve my goals and be successful.

My 10 Themes:
1. Work-Life Balance
2. Environment
3. My Passion
4. Growth
5. Consistency
6. Roles
7. Fields of Interests
8. Self-Awareness
9. Influence
10. Simplicity & Diligence
Theme 1: Work-Life Balance
• Theme Statement: One of my top principals is to find balance in my personal and professional life, that
includes the importance of family and friends in my career decision making.

• Supporting Data:
1. Value beauty, harmony, balance, not only in my life but in everything around me; self-expressive, volunteer
outdoors, physical environment matters. (IA)

2. It made me realize that I’m more of an ambivert, and in order for me to act out of character, I must allow myself
to find a place to return to my true self, my “restorative niche”. (PC)

3. My results displayed a “Guardian” type of temperament. I learned about myself that I have natural talents in
managing goods and services, I’m serious about my duties but fun time with friends and family is very
important to me. (TT)
4. Looking back to when I decided to go back to school and major in organizational leadership, I made the
decision to change fields of work as the hospitality field was draining me instead of giving me joy. Although, I
was able to grow and develop into an account manager at the Ritz Carlton, I had no work-life balance as I
found myself working 50-60 hours a week and canceling precious time to visit my family in New York due
work. (3Qs)
Theme 1: Work-Life Balance con’t
• Supporting Data:
5. Although the divorce of my parents brought me a great amount of sorrow, this experience also brought
numerous amount of possibilities and positive changes in our lives. (It taught me that even when things don’t
go as I want them to go, positive things can come out of it and I learned to value even more the time I have
with either of them, family). To me this means that I will always make time and travel the distance to spend time
with them as they sacrificed so much for me that I’m not willing to sacrifice my time and effort for a company
that does not value me or my time with my loved ones, wherever they may be. (LSPN)

6. I made the decision to move in with my dad as I only got to spent time with him during my summer vacations
and not during my birthdays or other holidays. My sister joined me and we talked to our parents, the transition
was smooth and shortly we found ourselves starting a whole new life in a completely different environment. To
me, this move was necessary as I was able to meet new cultures, new people, and new experiences. (LSPN)

7. This specific time in my life taught me that the people with who you surround yourself is what counts and not
necessarily the place you find yourself in. I was able to create amazing friendships that led me to make the
best of my time in Nebraska. (LSPN)

8. Second, it was the first time in ten years that my parents and I were in the same building. Truly, an
unforgettable moment in my life as I had my family together, yet again. (LSPN)
Theme 1: Work-Life Balance con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• An “aha-moment” where I took some time to identify why I thought I scored so low in security as it is very
important, I believe it comes down to what I’ve learned during Covid-19. In fact, it has taught me that tomorrow
is not promised and being in the present is all we have. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that it doesn’t
matter if I get laid-off, or my position is not promised, what counts for me is self-awareness of being present
and learning from my experiences. (Kuder Values)

• Areas to work on: Don’t forget to take time out of your busy day-to-day activities to reflect on what brings you
the greatest meaning in your life; reflect (EIA).

• Reflection
• Looking back at my real-life experiences through numerous of assessments made me realize the
things I value the most and that I’m not willing to sacrifice or give up valuable time with my loved
ones. My family and friends are a big part of my life and I’m always willing to spend time with them
and adventure out. My experiences at the Ritz Carlton as a manager taught me not to settle for a
job or salary that does not bring joy to my life nor balance due to working extensively. I need and
want that flexibility where I can dedicate plenty of time to my career but also make time for those
who bring joy to my life.
Theme 2: Environment
• Theme Statement: My ideal environment motivates me, brings out the
best version of myself. My goal is to prosper and have a comfortable
lifestyle, one that I can share with those around me. It is important but is
not bigger than work-life balance, I’m not willing to give up on my values
for financial gains.

• Supporting Data:
1. My experience as a freshman at UNL and truly not knowing what to
major in, I had the opportunity to take a break from school and change
the scenery, to a place much warmer than Lincoln, NE. My father and I
decided to move to Orlando to enjoy the outdoors more, to travel, and to
find new opportunities. (LSPN)
2. My current dreams are to buy a home closer to the ocean, maybe near
Tampa, or move more south such as Miami Beach. (LSPN)
3. Important to find an environment that doesn’t go against the things you
believe in, things that matter to me. Assignments and activities that align
with your core values (IA).
Theme 2: Environment con’t
• Supporting Data:
4. Prefers optimistic energy, brings energy to environment, teamwork, jobs where you can work with
people. (DiSC)

5.My sister joined me and we talked to our parents, the transition was smooth and shortly we found
ourselves starting a whole new life in a completely different environment. To me, this move was
necessary as I was able to experience new cultures, new people, and new experiences. (LSPN)
6. With this particular life lesson, now in the present, intentionally I’ve worked myself to go on a
morning run as part of my morning routine. During my morning runs, I get to admire the beautiful
green grass and pond behind our complex, the sun coming up to warm up my soul, and take
thoughtful breaths to start my walk. (LSPN)
7. On the other hand, I found myself way happier at the Hilton Orlando where I was part of a team,
where communication, strategies, and team effort was expected. I decided to invest my time and
grow with Towne Park at the Hilton Orlando as it gave me a purpose. (LSPN)
Theme 2: Environment con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• My lowest scoring career anchor was Security, Stability, Organizational Identity, and I found it particularly interesting.
In connection to the Kuder Assessment, which I scored low in the area of security, made me realize that I’ve become
resilient. I’ve learned to bring balance in my life, even when things are shaky, by blocking the noise that surrounds me
and remind myself that I always have to put in the work with my own two hands. Through meditation, active lifestyle,
and pursuing my passion brings stability to my life. (CAA)

• Reflection
• I find it interesting to meditate on where I see myself living in 10-20 years from now as my personal
journey has taken me to different parts of the world and I’ve been able to experience new cultures, new
people, new environments, new cities, and new countries. I’m proud of living in Quito Ecuador, Long
Island NY, Lincoln NE, and currently in Orlando Fl, as it is very important for me to experience new things,
it allows me to discover things that make me happy such as new foods, hiking trails, waterfalls, beaches,
islands, and different languages. Through my traveling, I’ve identified warm/tropical places as my
preferred living destinations. I see myself completing my morning routines and adding a run or walk by
the ocean as part of my daily habits, but also having a dream view from my office. One thing that I’m
definitely open to is to experience living in new environments if that means landing my dream job as a
Sporting Director such as moving to Europe.
Theme 3: My Passion

• Theme Statement: I’m very passionate about soccer, mentoring, coaching and living a way of life that matches my
purpose.

• Supporting Data:
1. What gives me joy is coaching, mentoring, and most of all soccer. (3Qs)

2. Father Himes asked a really intriguing question in reference to the first question, “what are your obsessions?” With no
doubt, I found myself smiling because I immediately thought about the one thing I constantly think about, ask questions
about, research, get in serious conversations and I have no problem investing time in, and that is the love I have for the
beautiful game, but it goes beyond that because my dream job is to become a director of football, to manage a
European club, and be a able to create the best team possible to compete in a high levels of the competitions around
the world. (3Qs)
3. Lastly, I strongly believe there is a strong connection between what I desire and my inner sense of purpose as in the past
year I’ve been able to find myself by having a clear sense of who I’m via reflection, meditation, breathing exercises,
feedback and simply being more self-aware of my true calling, in leadership and in soccer. (VD)

4. I remember seeing Ryan Giggs, run down the flanks and passing the soccer ball over to Wayne Rooney, he scored a
screamer. This was a love story, between a young boy and “the beautiful game”. (LSPN)
Theme 3: My Passion con’t
• Supporting Data:
5. I’ve always liked soccer and played outside in a park with friends, it was a great outlet for me to meet
kids my age and kick the ball around. But this day was different, I was filled with joy and passion, I went
on to research all the players from the Manchester United Football Club, and became obsessed with
this team. (LSPN)

6. Their red jersey called my attention as it was and still is my favorite color. This specific experience has
become more than memorable in my life as from that day I discovered my passion. (LSPN)

7. I found my passion for table tennis and went on to win a tournament. My dad and I were so excited we
bought a table and set it up in our garage. (LSPN)

8. My mantra, my values, the knowledge that I’ve gained about myself have led me to put the most effort
into myself, as I only will have one body. I’ve decided to take action and make better decisions on the
way I eat and live an active lifestyle. It has brought so much joy into my life as I constantly live for a
happy, healthy, and whole life. (LSPN)

9. From the 7 different categories of OCB, I scored the highest in the Individual Initiative and Self-
Development categories. (OCB)
Theme 3: My Passion con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• Low Compliance- carefree, visionary, risk taker. Not concerned with details, but more focused
on the big picture. Very independent (DiSC)

• Reflection
• In search of what brings me joy, I can clearly identify that I’m passionate
about soccer and mentoring others. Life-changing realizations through my
findings and reflections, I’ve realized that in order to pursue my passion in
life, I must include this wild obsession of mine and include it in my personal
and professional life. I understand that I will not stop evolving, and through
my findings, I will develop new passions, what I do know is that I will use
my passions as anchors in my life to find that balance I crave so much.
Theme 4: Growth
• Theme Statement: Having a growth mindset and development are key core principles that fill me up with motivation.

• Supporting Data:
1. Although, I was able to grow and develop into an account manager at the Ritz Carlton, I had no work-life balance as I found
myself working 50-60 hours a week and canceling precious time to visit my family in New York due work (3Qs).

2. The growth that I’ve made over the past few years has made me a better leader, I wanted to become an effective leader
because of the love and care I have for others to make a difference. Big reason why I decided to fulfill the Organizational
Leadership Program at ASU (VD).

3. My priorities have changed and I’m thankful for this time of reflection and personal growth. Pursuing my dream job will
change my role and priorities as I will have more responsibilities and room for growth. It will affect my identity as I will push to
achieve my goals and find a career that I truly love and invest my time and energy. (IE)

4. My personal journey has led me to discover my mantra, in other words, it has strengthened my mentality and attitude
towards my way of tackling things as I move forward. (LSPN).

5. My mantra consists of a mixture of different ideas from a few coaches, motivational videos, and articles that have inspired
me on a personal basis. “I’m a powerful human being, made to do hard things. I’m engaged, confident, and trust myself to
achieve anything I set my mind to, I will conquer…(anything that is challenging)”. (LSPN)
Theme 4: Growth con’t
• Supporting Data:
6. It pushed us to move to America for better opportunities, for my sister and me to grow into great
professionals and do what we love. I was used to visiting the states but living was a whole new
experience. (LSPN)

7. Another proud moment that came from moving to NE was my first time ever getting straight A’s and
the first person in my family to graduate high school in America. (LSPN)

8. Within the last year, I’ve incorporated eight new habits into my daily routine for personal
development. I decided to take action as I wanted to improve in several areas of my life. I
discovered that having a morning routine helps me stay grounded and balanced, waking up early is
one of my habits that allows me to meditate, practice a breathing technique to start my day, make
my bed and it also includes a morning walk, cardio for 30-45 mins and homemade breakfast.
(LSPN)

9. In addition, the Self-Development category reminded me of how each of our individual effort can
lead us to improve our knowledge and skills in our related jobs or careers. (OCB)
Theme 4: Growth con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• What I learned about myself in this assessment was that generally my personality tends to be
extraverted, in fact 78% compared to 22% introverted. Furthermore, I realized that in order for
me to be social, outgoing, and being a good role model to others, I genuinely value my alone time
in order to recharge. (PC)

• Reflection
• Analyzing my growth and achievements inspires me to be more, to do more
because it is all worth it. I realize that even if I don’t achieve my goals, as
long as I put in the effort to develop, I’ve achieved so much getting to that
point. Areas, where I’ve noticed the most growth, are areas either out of my
comfort zone or by doing things that I’m passionate about. In other words, I
will continue completing my daily habits and keep track of them to get a
better picture of my growth.
Theme 5: Consistency
• Theme Statement: Little by little, I will meet and overcome these challenges. My understanding will grow as I gain
experience, I will persist and stand tall through consistency.

• Supporting Data:
1. Finding an anchor that gives me peace of mind, grounds me, and feels me up with confidence and balance was no
easy task, but I feel like the turning points in my life have led me exactly where I need to be. (CAA)

2. Towards the end of my first year in middle school in America, my family and I were invited to graduation, a farewell
event as we were moving on to middle school. Little did we know my name was being called to receive an award
for “Most Improvement.” My consistency and diligence allowed me give my best effort and earn this reward.
(LSPN)

3. To this day this small recognition means a lot to me because I learned that effort is what counts, if I put in the effort,
I will harvest the results. Certainly, I carried on this level of effort into the next chapters in my life. (LSPN)

4.  My graduation meant a lot to me for two reasons; first, because my efforts led me to graduate and second, set a
good example to my sister. (LSPN)
Theme 5: Consistency con’t
• Supporting Data:
5. Will champion change and be bottom-line focused for results within the system of living (IA)

6. During this time I either listen to calm music, reggae, or motivational videos and reflect on where I’m,
how am I feeling, analyzing my individual efforts from the day before, and setting my expectations to
improve. This adds so much positivity and a sense of gratefulness that I have the privilege to enjoy
my amazing morning routine. MOMENTUM (LSPN)

7. These little but effective habits bring me joy and gratitude, it shifts my thoughts and attitude towards
the things that I want to accomplish or indulge in during the day. Most importantly it reminds me that
every day is a new opportunity and I should be mindful of my actions, plans, and dreams. (LSPN)

8. Part of the process was finding out what works best for me and the way I could hold myself
accountable on a consistent basis to make sure I complete what I set out for my day. What has
worked best for me is having a planner and having “to-do” lists and a tracker of my eight habits. It
allows me to keep track and hold myself accountable, and challenge myself to be more consistent
the following week. (LSPN)
Theme 5: Consistency con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• Individualistic- two things: #1 you want to chart your own path, do things your own way. #2 you
want to EXCEL and be recognized at excelling. How does this make me feel? “Only you can
control your future” - Dr. Seuss (IA)

• Tend to be direct, results-oriented, competitive and strong willed (DiSC)

• Reflection
• Having consistency in my life fulfills me, makes me unstoppable. I’ve learned that
through consistency I can achieve my goals, even the ones that seem impossible. I’ve
struggled with overweight and key to my recent success on loosing 30 pounds has
been through consistency. Being consistent of tracking my activities, my intake
macros, planning my workouts ahead of time, and simply putting in the work day-in
and day-out. Even though I do prefer charting my own path and doing things my own
way, I’ve realized that the only way to excel is through me being consistent.
Theme 6: Roles

(LSPN)
3. Recently, I had a discussion with close friends of mine who made a connection of my abilities to manage projects,
people, and my passion for soccer. I was able to connect with what Father Himes said in connection to how others
must be able to tell us if we are good in regards to our own specific roles (3Qs)

4. I identify myself the most with servant and transformational leadership (3Qs)

5. As a football director or a coach I get to put my players first, empower them, help them develop to their full personal
capacities, and lead in ways that serve the greater good of my organization, community and society at large (3Qs)
Theme 6: Roles con’t
• Supporting Data:
6. My Holland code was ECS, Enterprising, Conventional and Social. Surprisingly enough, I can draw multiple
connections with the above attributes to my ideal career and role in my dream organization. (Kuder Career)

7. An “aha moment” was the description of Enterprising: “Interests in activities that include working to achieve economic
gain as well as personal or organizational goals”. Some of the attributes include being confident in persuasive,
leadership and entrepreneurial skills. (Kuder Career)

8. I have a strong connection with the description of Social interest as it demonstrated key attributes to what a director of
football would need. Some of the interests consist of working to inform, develop, heal, and teach other people. I
associate myself with the characteristics of Transformational Leadership, as I share the same values such as;
encouraging creativity, recognizing accomplishments, building trust, and inspiring a collective vision. (Kuder Career)

9. Such as creativity, having the opportunity to be resourceful and innovative, I believe this attribute is necessary in
project management, decision making, conflict management, strategic planning and organization understanding.
(Kuder Skills)

• Challenges: interpret my beliefs as flawless (IA)

• Dominance- demanding, strong-willed, driven, determined, ambitious, aggressive, and

pioneering. Tend to be direct, results-oriented, competitive and strong willed (DiSC)

• Reflection
• My findings show me my ideal dream jobs such as being an international soccer scout or a
Sporting Director. The skills I’ve gained through my experiences and education lead me to
believe I can be a successful director of football as I’ve developed core competencies to be
effective in my role. Being a servant and transformational leadership gives me the edge to work
with my team and develop them to their best abilities. Key attributes to what a director of
football would need are to inform, develop, heal, and teach other people. I associate myself
with the characteristics of Transformational Leadership, as I share the same values such as;
encouraging creativity, recognizing accomplishments, building trust, and inspiring a collective
vision.
Theme 7: Fields of Interest
• Theme Statement: Sense of service or dedication for a good cause are key themes to my work-life happiness.

• Supporting Data:
1. I believe I can use my talents to serve others through what I’m most passionate about. (3Qs)

2. In addition, it highlighted an area in my life that has always brought me purpose, and that is the sense of service or dedication to
cause. It reaffirmed me that I value and I’m committed to provide any support service to my team, family members, gym buddies,
co-workers, etc… to contribute and bring value to others. (CAA)

3. My interest grew in the hospitality field as I got trained in many areas of the theme park such as Customer Service, Tickets, Gates,
Parking, and Cabanas. I truly enjoyed the experience and knowledge, since I found a passion for working with others and make
close relationships with the leads, supervisors, and managers at Aquatica I found myself enjoying what I did, plus the benefits were
the cherry on top. (LSPN)

4. Took on a leadership position at a Valet Company, named Towne Park, and decided to go for it, my interview process was unique
as it was a group interview, my first time experiencing such a scenario, but I felt confident and put in my best effort to stand out. I
was one of few that got selected and the account manager of the Hilton Orlando approached me and offered me the position with
an opportunity to develop into a leadership role. (LSPN)

5. I took notice that I was unhappy working at the call center, in a cubicle, receiving phone calls, setting up reservations, and offering
my advice on what to do during their stay at SeaWorld or their partner hotels (Taking notice of the things I don’t want). (LSPN)
Theme 7: Fields of Interest con’t
• Supporting Data:
6. I’m glad I experienced working at that call center as I learned more about myself, I love face-to-face interactions,
teamwork, preferably if it's outdoors, and most importantly somewhere that brings me joy and purpose. (LSPN)

7. I aspire to be a Sporting Director, preferably in the world of soccer across Europe. (Kuder Career)

8. Particular career interests that this assessment gave me insight on was entertainment & recreation management,
spa managers, and travel guides. (Kuder Career)

9. In the work-values assessment, I scored really high in lifestyle, creativity, co-workers, workplace, achievement,
scored medium in income, and low in security. (Kuder Values)

longer, healthier lives. (EIA)

be. (IA)

13. Social- value being of service to others and contributing to the well being of society. Helping unconditionally
being altruistic (unselfishly, concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others), being of service. (IA)
Theme 7: Fields of Interest con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• May struggle with hearing and applying constructive criticism, can set personal standards too
high (IA)

• Reflection
• In connection with my results of my primary career anchor is Life-Style Integration, and my
secondary career anchor is Sense of Service/Dedication to Cause, I can be assertive that these
fields bring me purpose and joy. Probably one of my easiest themes to recognize throughout all
my data as it reaffirmed me that I value and that I’m committed to providing any support
service to my team, family members, gym buddies, co-workers, etc… to contribute and bring
value to others by being able to serve others. Another attribute that will help me be an effective
Sporting Director as I will be able to serve others in my club for a good purpose and support a
healthy degree of camaraderie.
Theme 8: Self-Awareness

• Theme Statement: Being self-aware is one of my top core values and is an essential framework to my life
and also strengthens my Emotional Intelligence.

• Supporting Data:
1. This is something I’ve been able to identify through out my OGL major, as it has helped identify self-
awareness of what I really want as my career. In connection to this weeks reading, “being able to manage
one’s career and integrating work with other parts of one’s life is a clear self-awareness” (Harrington & Hall,
2007, p. 16). Genuinely, it has helped me identify a sense of identity, knowing who I really am (3Qs).

2. My top 5 values are wisdom, thankfulness, leadership, growth, and affection (love & caring) (VD).

3. Wisdom connects to all my other values as everyday a seek and ask for wisdom, which allows me to identify
what’s important to me, wisdom is within my top core values. (VD)

4. It also influences through the feedback and responses I get from those who I interact with. I don’t think our
roles define us, but it keeps us grounded and shows us our true calling (IE).
Theme 8: Self-Awareness con’t

5. I can make a connection with this weeks reading how it said, “taking time to get grounded in a clear sense
of who we are, what we can and want to do, and what priorities will drive our decision-making is extremely
important” (p. 15). This exercise allowed me to get grounded in a clear sense of who I’m, how my roles
define my self-concept and how it influences my priorities and actions based on my core values. (IE)

6. This assessment was valuable to me because not only it showed me the behaviors that I value in myself
but attributes that I seek in others, especially when putting a team together to accomplish a specific task. I
pride myself on giving 110% and go the extra mile in a work setting where I find purpose and feel valued.

• Reflection
• Emotional intelligence is definitely an area of improvement over my time at ASU. I’ve been able
to identify essential elements that contribute to my core values and makes me who I'm today.
Being self-aware grounds me and allows me to live in the present, it grants me gratitude and
helps me live a happy lifestyle. Goals need to be aligned with key values and greater purpose,
such as integrity, it is at the core of being a leader. Integrity makes a leader believable and
worthy of our trust, it inspires confidence in others. Ethical leadership is central to leadership, it
is about doing the right thing, for the right reasons, in the right situations.
Theme 9: Influence

• Theme Statement: I want to influence others in a positive manner just as those who have influenced my life, I’ve learned that all
extraordinary progress has come not from individuals acting along, but from people collaborating to a shared vision.

• Supporting Data:
1. A high point in my life was when my sister Camila was born. Although I was so young and naive, I can still remember that day
because it changed my whole life. (LSPN)

2. My sister has influenced my life in many ways, is the one person that has always been there in my low and high moments. Being an
older brother has taught me to be responsible, to be selfless, to look out for others when in need, made me more compassionate,
and has given me a strong perspective on how women should be treated with respect, honor, and equality. (LSPN)

3. I was nervous and afraid to start a new school in a whole new country, but I had to be brave just like my parents were, they decided
to leave everything behind, including family, just for us to do better. It was my responsibility to not let them down and put as much
effort into my studies and be a good example to my sister. (LSPN)

4. His winning mentality and high standards have stuck with me since that first season I watched. Jumping to the present, Sir Alex has
influenced my life in many ways, his philosophy on man-management and his style of football is something that I really admire and
try to learn from. What he represents to the club and to many fans, has definitely increased my aspirations to one day be in a similar
role as he was. (LSPN)

5. After graduating I met an incredible friend who influenced me by taking me out of my comfort zone. His name is
Ramon Diaz-deLeon but was known for “Brown” this was his artistic name. He took me under his wing and offered me
his friendship through his kind acts. We explored new cities, new foods, new music, and he showed me around
campus. All in return for my friendship and helping him sell mixtapes in school, this also led me to met a lot of new
people. (LSPN)

6. My journey at Towne Park was full of surprises, an old manager and mentor definitely influenced my development with
the Hilton. We were able to create a strong working relationship and trust. After my 60 day review and one-on-one
meetings, he shared how much potential he saw in me and that he would like me to take on a leadership role at the
property. (LSPN)

• My parents Eva and Marco decided to have me after four years of marriage, and then close to four years
after having their first son, me, they had my baby sister, Camila. (My parents have influenced my way of
marriage and holding on to having kids, as it allows me to experience, travel new places, and do the things
that I love with less responsibilities). (LSPN)

• Reflection
• Within my inner-self, I have a dream to inspire others to achieve extraordinary things. Achieving greatness
requires a team effort, I want to envision the future of my organization, as a football director, with exciting
possibilities. A personal experience that comes to mind in regards to “paying it forward” relates back to
my mentor Yovan Villalta. This man was a busy man, he ran the account smoothly, had relationships with
his team, clients, and customers. Not to mention he had a big family and also spend much of his time with
them. As I remember a late night at the office, I was wondering why he was so committed to my
development as he sacrificed personal time to teach me, coach me, train me, mentor me, and really get to
know me. His response surprised me because he said “Not only I enjoy doing what I do, but I also do it
because somebody else did this for me and I’m just trying to give back. This meant a lot to me because it
also taught me that later on, I will have to do the same for someone else, or many others, to repay my
debt and develop others with the same passion Yovan had to teach me. I’m grateful for him and this
experience.
Theme 10: Simplicity and Diligence

• Theme Statement: Simplicity and diligence are very important factors to my path to greatness, if I want more free time, I need
more discipline time.

• Supporting Data:
1. It was another great exercise to feel grounded and have more clarity on my own priorities, being able to size down to my top 5
breaks down my goals into more manageable goals instead of focusing on 20 at the same time. (VD)

2. It was a great way to reflect on and put things on perspective, I also thought it gave me a sense of urgency to accomplish my
goals in life. In many ways it motivates me because I have a clear vision of what I want. (VD)

3. My mantra: These are the words that I repeat to aid concentration in meditation or when facing a new challenge. One specific
underlying theme throughout my personal narrative has been making an effort, putting in the work with my two hands. Through
my journey, I’ve learned to “shoot for the moon, because even if I miss, I’ll be amongst the stars”. Aim so high that even if you
don’t get to that point, you’ve achieved so much getting to that point. (LSPN)

4. Positively promotes the image of the organizations. (IA)

5. For the most part I was able to make a connection with my top 5 core values as they play a big role in my identities. Currently,
every life decision that I’m making on a daily basis relates back to my personal growth and priorities. (IE)

concerns of my followers, to empathize with them, and nurture them (3Qs).

everything clicked for me and I made an adjustment to my mantra. All these acts of kindness and
accountability have brought me so much confidence, I’m confident! (LSPN)
Theme 10: Simplicity and Diligence con’t
• Contradictory Evidence
• Tend to be direct, results-oriented, competitive and strong willed (DiSC)

• Reflection
• As of recent I’ve realized that if I follow my calling, life will bring up all the right opportunities at
just the right time. With that in mind, I recognize that diligence is my precious possession, and
if I continue to put in constant effort to accomplish my dreams by being persistent I will be on
the right track to pursue my passion. Simplicity and practicality are goals of mine, something
that stuck with me from Dr. Pryzdia’s OGL 365 class, Reinventing Organizations, it is a principle
that I’m currently trying to live by as it helps me look for alternatives, to look at things from
different perspectives to gain the best possible outcome. With that being said I’ve learned that
from struggle comes learning, by being resilient, I can keep a positive mindset and think to
myself, what can I learn from my mistakes?
My Personal Purpose/Vision Statement
“I’m a powerful human being, made to do hard things. I’m engaged, confident,
and trust myself to achieve anything I set my mind to.”

Reflection:
The process I used to develop my personal vision statement has actually been
a work in progress over the past 6 months of my life. In fact, it consists of
different ideas, perspectives, and motivational videos. I strongly believe that it
captures my true reasons for being, I use it as my guiding light, and
motivational fuel. Apart from this, I use it in moments of doubt, in challenging
times where I want to give up, but it keeps me grounded and reminds me about
my most important goals in life, and pushes me to continue putting in the effort.
My Personal Mission Statement
Overall, I will remain thankful and show my gratitude with every new opportunity, I will
continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle, I will pursue growth and development in all
areas of my life, as I listen to my inner compass and keep myself discipline to move
forward, even in challenging circumstances.

Reflection:

The process I used to develop my personal mission statement was inspired by essential
elements from my Life Themes. It highlights areas of my life that are important to me, it
reflects on my personal wisdom and gratitude for my family, experiences, growth, body, and
mind. It reminds me that every second, minute, hour, day counts, to continue being resilient
and persevere through challenges as I pursue my passions, dreams, and long-term life goals.
If I stay true to my purpose and mission, I will exceed all of my goals, my objective is for
every day to be the best version of myself.
Conclusion
My overall learning for this assignment exceeded my expectations as I completed for the
first time a thematic analysis about myself. I had to dig deep to find valuable information
about my strengths and weaknesses and it also added to my framework as I move
forward with my career. As I analyzed thoroughly the results of my assessments at a
deeper level, something I’ve never done before, I was able to make connections with my
true core values, my desires in life, and monitored my progress to acknowledge what has
worked for me in the past and continue using the same practices as I raise my
standards. It was also a reality check, as I took the opportunity to research career paths
that are interesting to me and showed me that if I stay true to myself and pursue my
passion I will exceed all of my goals. In other words, it highlighted my interests and
passions as I found direction and meaning in the pursuit of work-life happiness.

Part of the process was finding out what works best for me and ways to hold myself
accountable on a consistent basis. In fact, I can make a connection to what I learned
from the Jim Collins article, the theme of building sustained momentum. The flywheel
effect reminded me to continue evolving, growing, developing, and changing. What has
worked best for me is having a planner, having a “to-do” list, and keeping track of my
eight daily habits. A life-changing realization that came from synthesizing all of my self-
assignment and reflections was constructing my personal purpose and mission
statement. It expresses my personal core purpose, deepest values, and what's important
to me. It gives me a deeper level of identity as I pursue my passions and establishes as
my motivational fuel from within to remain consistent and diligent. Finally, what I learned
overall is that I’m an ever-changing constellation, I will continue to grow and develop as I
find direction and meaning in the pursuit of my work-life balance and happiness.
