Aeronautical Information Services (AIS)
• Under the Chicago Convention,
ICAO requires each Contracting State to provide an AIS.
Aeronautical Information Services (AIS)
ICAO Annex 15 requires Contracting States to provide an
aeronautical information service in accordance with a
quality system.
Aeronautical Information Services (AIS)
AIS is required to fulfil the following roles on behalf of the Contracting State
• Receive aeronautical information from other Contracting States;

• Make available to other Contracting States aeronautical information necessary;

• Designate an office to which all elements of the AIP originated by other States can be
addressed; and

• Notify ICAO of any differences between national regulations and SARPs contained in the
ICAO Annexes.
Aeronautical Information Services (AIS)
AIS relevant responsibilities for the States:
• Provide an aeronautical information service
• Agree with one or more other contracting State(s) for the provision of a joint
information service.
• Delegate the authority for the provision of the information service to a non-
governmental organization.

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
The AIP is a publication
issued by or with the authority of a State
and containing
aeronautical information of a lasting character
essential to air navigation.
Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
The AIP is divided into three parts:
• Part-1 - General (GEN)

• Part-2 - Enroute (ENR)

• Part-3 - Aerodromes (AD)

Effective Date Date at which changes take effect.

Publication Date Date at which the AIS organization sends out the
information.
–> Should be at least 42 days (56 for major changes) before
effective date.
Reception Date Date at which the user should receive the publications.
–> Should be at 28 days before the effective date.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 21

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
AIP is published in three forms:

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 22

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Amendments (ADMT) to AIP issued on loose-leaf sheets.

Two types of ADMT are issued:

AIRAC AIP AMDT – issued in accordance with AIRAC system and are
identified by pink cover sheet and the acronym AIRAC AIP AMDT,
incorporates operationally significant permanent changes into AIP on the
indicated AIRAC effective date;

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 23

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
2 AIP AMDT – issued when necessary and is identified by a light blue
cover sheet and the acronym AIP AMDT, incorporate permanent
changes into the AIP on the indicated publication date.
A brief description of the subjects affected by the amendment is
given on the AIP Amendment cover sheet. New information included
on the replaced AIP pages can be identified by a vertical line on the
left margin of the page.

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Supplement service to the AIP

published as AIP Supplements.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 25

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Two types of supplements are published:

AIRAC AIP SUP - published in accordance with AIRAC system with effective date;
AIP SUP - is published when necessary

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 26

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
NOTAM – Notice to Airman

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 27

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
NOTAM and Pre-flight Information Bulletins (PIB)

NOTAM contain information concerning the establishment, change in any aeronautical

facility, service, procedures or information about hazard, the timely knowledge of
which is essential for personnel concerned with flight operations.

NOTAM are issued and disseminated

in compliance to the ICAO System NOTAM Format.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 28

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

NOTAM are originated and issued in following series.

NOTAM Series A:
contain information on facilities and procedures of airspace usage for
international and national flights (en-route navigation, approach and
landing) and information on the international aerodromes.
NOTAM series A are designated for international dissemination and are
promulgated in English language.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 29

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

NOTAM Series S (SNOWTAM):

contain information concerning the presence or removal of hazardous

conditions due to snow, ice, slush or standing water associated with
snow, slush and ice on the movement area.
SNOWTAM is issued on international aerodromes in English language.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 30

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

TRIGGER NOTAM:

contain a brief description of AIRAC AIP AMDT

or AIRAC AIP SUP, effective date and number of
this amendment or supplement.

TRIGGER NOTAM has effective date of related

amendment or supplement, as indicated in Item B of
NOTAM.

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

TURKISH NATIONAL NOTAM SERIES:

Contains

E → SNOWTAM

G → havaalanları, yol, seyrüsefer kolaylıklarını, hava sahası kısıtlamaları ve ikazları

H → İstanbul FIR’ı içindeki meydan, seyrüsefer kolaylığı ve bunlarda değişiklikler

M → askeri havaalanları, seyrüsefer kolaylıkları ve bunlarda değişiklikler

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Pre-flight Information Bulletins (PIB),

which contain a recapitulation (abstract/ summary)

of valid NOTAM and other information of urgent character for the
operators/flight crew, are available at aerodrome AIS units.
Types of PIB:
- Area Type Bulletin
- Route Type Bulletin
- Aerodrome Type Bulletin

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 33

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC)

contain information that doesn't require

NOTAM publication or incorporation into AIP
but concerns flight safety or aeronautical, technical,
legislative or purely administrative matters.

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES 34

Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)
AICs are divided by subject and are issued in two
series

AIC Series A contains information in the form of bilingual

text (English and Local),
AIC A contains information concerning international and
national flights and is distributed via international net.

AIC Series С contains information affecting only

national flights
