I AM Poem

Definition: Personal poem in which one talks about themselves or a specific character. Imaginary

words can be used to describe oneself or to guide the reader on a descriptive person journey.

Purpose: Reflect upon a specific character and on oneself, create a connection with writing,

reading, and art. Teachers can use an I AM Poem to have students describe themselves, perhaps

as a way to introduce themselves to the class, used to describe a character from a story, describe

an event in history, or even describe subjects such as science, art, or history. Completing this

poem template helps the students strengthen their parts of speech.
