LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND STRATEGIES

PRESENT SIMPLE

The present tense is a verb tense used to describe a current activity or state of being.
To conjugate the present simple, we use the infinitive for the subjects "I", "you", "we" and "they" and for the third
persons "he", "she" and "it", we add a "-s" to the end of the verb.

STRUCTURES:

Affirmative Sentences

Sujeto + verbo
Examples:

� I talk (Yo hablo)

� He eats (El come)

� They learn (Ellos aprenden)

Negative Sentences

Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to do) + auxiliar negativo “not” ´+ verbo

Examples:

� I do not talk (Yo no hablo)

� He does not eat (Él no come)

� Do they learn (Ellos no aprenden)

Interrogative Sentences

verbo auxiliar (to do) + sujeto + verbo +?

Examples:

� ¿Do you talk? (¿hablas tu?)

� Does he eat? (¿come el?)

� ¿Do they learn? (¿ellos aprenden?)

The present simple is usually used with adverbs of time:

� Always (siempre)

� Every day (cada día)

� Usually (normalmente)

� Often (a menudo)

� Sometimes (a veces)
� Rarely (raramente) 

� Hardly ever (casi nunca)

� Never (nunca)…

Examples:

� I always talk to my mother on Sunday (siempre hablo con mi madre el domingo)

� He never eats vegetables (nunca come vegetales)

� They usually learn something in new classs (normalmente aprenden algo nuevo en la clase)
