Overview of the lesson:
Mahra began the lesson with the National anthem and then proceeded with the morning
calendar activities were students identified the day of the week, today, yesterday, tomorrow,
the weather outside, the virtual classroom rules, COVID-19 safety precautions and Cyber safety
precautions. Students who answered appropriately and or read the slides were awarded with
class dojo points.
Next, Mahra asked a student to read the learning outcome “Today we will be able to read the
new words, list facts about trees, read and write facts about trees and make suggestions about
how we can take care of trees.” She then asked the students to read the new vocabulary
picture words (trees, leaves, wood, fruit, roots, ground). Mahra modelled how to respond to
the padlet question “Why trees are important?” Students answered appropriately and with
ease.
Excellent job modelling how to answer the padlet question to ensure student
understanding
Students were then called upon to share their answers with the class. Mahra then read the tree
facts text and called upon students to answer the questions regarding the tree fact text. Mahra
then instructed the students to find and share two items in their home that come from trees.
Next, students were instructed to listen and take notes over a short video about what we can
do to help take care of trees. After the video, students were shown various pictures and asked
to identify whether the picture was an item that came from trees or not by indicating thumbs
up or down. Pictures shown were the following: nest, banana, mug and car. Students
responded appropriately and with ease.
Question to consider: What strategies can be implemented to ensure that proper
grammar/sentence structure is used? How can the following sentences be reworded so that it’s
grammatically correct?

 Why trees are important? =

 Is the banana from the trees? =
 How we can take care about trees? =
After the student responses, Mahra then closed the lesson by restating the learning outcome
and asked the students to complete the corresponding pages in their workbook for homework.
