eClinicalWorks

For my blog today I am going to be talking about eClinicalWorks, which is a type of

electronic health record used across the nation. EClinicalWorks states in their mission, “Through

unified cloud-based solutions, we seek to control costs, reduce errors, deepen understanding, and

improve the quality of care. We are creating tools to bridge the gaps between providers and

patients, hospitals and private practices, and healthcare facilities and payers”. EClinicalWorks

product allows providers to view and compare both past and present visit notes to assess the care

plan with the best treatment plan. ECW can be used on an internet browser or through a tablet or

mobile app to document a visit. Patients even have access to their medical records with the

patient portal which also has the option for an “adolescent portal” for their children. ECWs run

on a private grid cloud, there are nine data centers located across the country for the fastest

possible access to information These data centers allow for the highest quality accessibility and

keeps your data securely private, no matter the circumstances. More than 130,000 physicians and

PAs use EWC as well as 850,000 healthcare professionals.

I personally really like the ease of EWC. I work in a primary care office it makes

scheduling appointments easy, we are able to look at patient history, see any notification of

missing paperwork or payments needed. This allows us to communicate with the patient about

anything they may need to do before their next appointment. One of my favorite aspects of the

EWC is having a patient medication list on hand, especially for older patients who don't always

remember all the names of their medications. I would recommend this EHR to any health care

office that has multiple physicians working in an office. It helps keep the office running smooth

and organized. This is also helpful if you have multiple different types of specialists in an office

that way the different physicians are able to have quick access to all of the patient's records. I

think that for smaller offices this might be a waste of time to have to back and input all the

information.
