YES / NO. GIVE YOUR REASONS I have a neutral opinion. I think that the points 1 and 2 are a little bit confusing because we know that the lesson is focused on Present Perfect tense but it begins with examples that make you get confused because there you don’t use the main tense. With a little bit of more explanation, it could work.
WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE/ IMPROVE/
REMOVE? I would improve explanations in each point. Maybe the person that did the lesson plan knows what the teacher needs to do, but another person would be very confused. Isn’t a bad lesson plan, it just needs better explanations where the steps are clear and very detailed to avoid confusion. The points that need better explanations are point 1, point 2 and point 5.
TASK 2. YOU WILL READ THE WAY THIS
LESSON WAS APPLIED
AT THE END YOU HAVE THE EXERCISE,
ANSWER IT AND ALSO THE FOLLOWING 1.- WAS THERE A MATCH BETWEEN THE LESSON AND HOW IT WAS APPLIED? There was a match, yes. The thing is that inside the lesson plan, there wasn’t mention about the revision of present continuous. Maybe someone could have sensed that their students need to use Present continuous, but it could have been better if it was included inside the lesson plan. Also, in the lesson plan the instructions were not very clear, maybe that’s why students got confused.
2.- WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED/
CHANGED? Giving clear instructions to make the lesson succesful. Instead of staying away of students, the teacher could have been a monitor to check if students were doing the activity in a right way. Also, the teacher could have asked if students were understanding the instructions for the activity.
3.- HOW DO YOU EVALUATE CLASS
MANAGEMENT? It was very poor. Matching the lesson plan with the lesson itself, we can see that the teacher needs to improve some aspects. I can say that being clearer while giving instructions is the most important, because in that way, students have clear what they are required to do. Also, being a better monitor while students are working is very necessary to reach the success of the lesson.
4.- Now look at the different class reactions,
and state which ones you think: 1. Could/Should have been predicted by the teacher; The teacher should have predicted that students couldn’t hear the D sound at the ends of the verbs in past perfect tense, could have predicted the mistakes in the revision of present continuous to put things clearer. 2. Were quite unpredictable; That the class didn’t understand the instructions given by the teacher and that they started talking in their native language. That was very unpredictable. 3. Needed further investigation by the teacher when they occurred. Inside the revision of present continuous, the teacher maybe needed to take that as a sign that students need to have clear explanations and instructions to make a good performance with the given activities.
Apart from making better predictions of the class's
reactions, what could this teacher have done to make the lesson more successful? As I said before, give clearer instructions, inside the lesson plan and in the moment where the lesson plan is performed. Also, monitoring students in a way that the teacher needs to check if they understood what they need to do and walking around the classroom in case some of them need help or want to ask something related to the activity.
