6.ML.2.1 Recognize whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and dotted
note and rest duration in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 meters
6.ML.2.2 Interpret, through instrument and/or voice, standard notation
symbols for pitch
6.ML.2.3 Recognize standard notation symbols for music.

Lesson Considerations
Materials:
Cello
Water Bottle
Misconceptions: Students will often overcorrect their wrist in effort to make it straight.
Lesson Procedure:
Begin with an assessment of posture/playing position.
Use a water bottle to shape the left hand, then transfer the shape to the neck.
Use a wristwatch to help the student understand the correct angle.
Using pizzicato technique, play Mary had a Little Lamb on open strings.
Move on to playing on strings with correct fingerings.
Instructional Strategies:
Use the water bottle to help student's understanding of hand shape
Use wristwatch to help student's understanding of angle
Closure - “After”: Restate teaching point, clarify key points, extend ideas, check for understanding
