I have been with the high school group of kids now for 3 years it has not always been easy but
I have figured out that if I am honest with the kids and talk to them and really listen we get
further along then I think if we did not. I have many hats as I am a dual credit facilitator, Beta
club sponsor and Yearbook advisor. I know these are not testing subjects as I am not certified to
teach them but being with these kids I have figured out what I want to do with my career in the
classroom I want to teach criminal justice as a CTE course. I have been able to my self in a
position where I can push the kids with their collage work and they can not give me any excuses
as to how tired they are or why they can not get stuff done. I have been taking the collage classes
right along with them to be able to start my career. I tell them please take advantage of these dual
credit classes as through our school district they are free as long as they pass all of their classes. I
show them my actual bills from the collage showing them how expensive school is and that is
why I push them so hard to do their classes, and to try for every scholarship they can.
Trust is a big thing to me and my students know that I have created a trust, bond with some
of my students that they trust me and will come talk to me. As an example, my second year in the
classroom we had problems with phones and social media to the point students were being
bullied. I would have students come to me and shoe me proof because they knew what was going
on was wrong, I had gained the trust of these students enough that they could come to me
I have high hopes in the classroom once I am able to teach Criminal Justice. I want to show
the students that there is more in the field then just police officers. From research I have found
that some criminal justice programs have mock crime scenes where they are able to play a part
from start to finish going over every piece of evidence, and every step of the process having the

hands-on experience. I have also seen where they were able to bring in different specialist in to
do demonstrations so as a blood splatter and how its done. I want them to have a learn a respect
for the law in this day and time its hard for them to have that.
At the end of the day I want everyone of my students to know and feel that my room is a
safe place for them and that no matter what the situation is or that the color of there skin, their
religion does not matter that I will care and treat them all the same. In my classroom now, I have
a wall of nothing but inspirational quotes. My though was that if one quote could help just one
student make it through a tough time then that it would be a step in the right direction. My
student knows and at times it drives them crazy that I always see the good and positive in
everything. They know that I will be honest and sometimes the truth hurts.
I think that with so many different ways of learning and technology I feel that the way the
students learn and are able to do things hands on is endless and the outlook is great for our future
kids. I am not fond of the state mandated test and that in hopes that one day it will go away and
kids can really see the beauty in learning and being involved in the classroom interacting. I think
that maybe that the number of drop outs change to with just a few tweaks to the educational
system.
