Community Action Grant


Community Action Grants provide funding to individuals, AAUW branches and AAUW state
organizations as well as community-based nonprofits for innovative programs that promote education
and equity through projects focused on encouraging girls to select, before entering college, the physical
sciences or engineering as a career. Since 1972, AAUW has provided support to hundreds of
communities across the United States.

Eligibility:

● Applicants must be individuals, AAUW branches, AAUW state organizations, or local


community-based nonprofit organizations (including universities).
● Project directors must be the applicant and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
● The proposed activity must take place within the United States or its territories.
● Nonprofit organizations and universities must be based in the United States or its territories.
● Organizations (including universities) must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. AAUW branch
and state applicants must have 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status.
● The proposed activity must have direct community or public impact.
● Proposals from AAUW branches or states must be approved and signed by the branch or state
president.
● Proposals from local community-based nonprofit organizations must be approved and signed
by the organization’s executive director.
● Previous Community Action Grant awardees must wait three application cycles before
applying for another grant.)
● Funds are available for, but not limited to, project-related expense categories, including
○ Postage, mailing, shipping
○ Photocopying, duplicating
○ Office supplies
○ Audiovisual materials
○ Project-related telephone costs
○ Professional fees or honoraria for speakers or special consultants
○ Equipment purchases
○ Meals, food, beverages, or lodging for camps or related activities
○ Temporary, hourly clerical help
○ Lease of facilities (does not include permanent office space)
○ Advertising, publicity, graphic design
○ Transportation (should be no more than one-third of grant request; $.545 per mile for
auto expenses)

Preferences:

● AUW encourages proposals for projects that


○ Use innovative approaches to address local community needs or build links among
community partners
○ Build partnerships between schools and community organizations
○ Special consideration is given to
● Projects directed by or collaborating with AAUW branches and states
○ Projects focused on K–14 (including two-year colleges) women and girls’ achievement
in math, science, and/or technology
○ Projects that include community partners (Community partners might include local
schools or school districts, businesses, and other community-based organizations.)

Ineligibility:

● Community Action Grants are not available for the development of written work for
academic credit or for research that will be used for a degree thesis or dissertation.
● Members of the AAUW Board of Directors, committees, panels, task forces, and staff,
including current interns, are not eligible to apply for AAUW’s fellowships and grants.
○ A person holding a current award is eligible for election or appointment to boards,
committees, panels, and task forces.
● Funds are not available for the following:
○ Salaries or stipends for project directors or permanent positions
○ Tuition
○ Higher education scholarships for students and participants
○ Building funds, construction, or renovations
○ Travel expenses for activities not within the scope of the project
○ Overhead or general operating expenses for any organization or nonprofit organization
○ Personal expenses, shelter, or life, medical, and health insurance
○ Previous expenditures, deficits, or loans
○ Creating or providing grants to other organizations
○ Copyright or attorney fees
○ Fundraising activities

Dr. Scholl Foundation Grants

Overview:

NOTE:
Application forms must be requested each year online prior to submitting an application. When you
submit an LOI, a member of the foundation staff will be contacting you within the next five business
days regarding the status of your request.
Full applications are due at the "full proposal" deadline above.
The Foundation is dedicated to providing financial assistance to organizations committed to
improving our world. Solutions to the problems of today's world still lie in the values of innovation,
practicality, hard work and compassion.
The Foundation considers applications for grants in the following areas:
● Education
● Social Service
● Health care
● Civic and cultural
● Environmental
The categories above are not intended to limit the interest of the Foundation from considering other
worthwhile projects. In general the Foundation guidelines are broad to give it flexibility in providing
grants.
Over the past decade, approximately 28% of our grants have been related to education, 28% to social
services, 22% to hospitals and healthcare, 17% to civic and cultural with the remaining percentage
spread out in the above categories. The majority of our grants are made in the U.S. However, like Dr.
Scholl, we recognize the need for a global outlook.
There is no limit on grant amounts; however, on average, our grants range from $5,000 to $25,000.

Eligibility:

● The Foundation awards grants on an annual basis to valid Internal Revenue Service 501(c)(3)
organizations.
● Funding is primarily given to U.S. applicants.
○ We consider funding in countries where a board member has direct knowledge of
Non-U.S. applicants.
● Only one application will be accepted from an organization or institution per grant year.
● The Foundation only accepts requests for one year of funding.

Ineligibility:

● The foundation does not consider the following for funding:


○ Organizations that do not have a valid IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter
○ Political organizations, political action committees, or individual campaigns whose
primary purpose is to influence legislation
○ Foundations that are themselves grantmaking bodies
○ Grants for loans, operating deficit reductions, the liquidation of a debt or general
support
○ Grants to individuals
○ Grants are rarely made to endowments or capital campaigns
○ Event sponsorships including the purchase of tables, tickets or advertisements
○ More than one request from the same organization in the same year

Entrepreneurship Grant for Women

The Boulware Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofits working in the area of financial
literacy and economic empowerment for women. Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to support

Voya Unsung Heroes Awards Program

Grants are given to K-12 educators utilizing new teaching methods and techniques that improve
learning. Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class
projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and
$25,000. At least one award will be granted in each of the 50 United States.

Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation Grants

The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation awards grants to organizations for whom a small amount
of money can make a big difference. The Foundation welcomes requests from museums, cultural and

This grant application is open to nonprofit organizations that meet the eligibility requirements as
outlined. These organizations must also be located within our corporate footprint and seeking to carry
out programs related directly to our funding priorities, mission and vision. Applicants should expect a
waiting period of up to 12 weeks from submission to final decision making.

AWS Foundation Grants

Overview:

NOTE: An LOI is required for requests that fall into one of these categories:
● The organization is making its first formal grant request;
● The request is for capital support regardless of amount;
● The request is for $50,000 or more;
● The funding is a multi-year request.
AWS Foundation awards grants to help children and adults with enduring intellectual, developmental
and physical disabilities live as independently as possible, be included in the community and function
at their highest potential.
Focus Areas
Our focus is specific to individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities such as
Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, fragile
X syndrome and alcohol fetal syndrome, etc. Aging or illness related disabilities fall outside our scope
of disabilities.

Early Diagnosis & System Navigation
Exploring programs that recognize and diagnose disabilities early to achieve each individual’s highest
potential, providing easy access and information to assist families and care givers, and gaining better
understanding of effective therapies for individuals with disabilities.
Housing
Broadening opportunities for safe, secure and affordable housing that provides a variety of beneficial
living environments for individuals with disabilities.

Dream Tags Charitable Fund

The Community Foundation of Western Nevada accepts proposals for grants from the Dream Tags
Charitable Fund year round. Proposals are considered by the Advisory Board on Dream Tags, and
grant recommendations must be approved by the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation.

The Dream Tags Charitable Fund provides funding to engage Nevadans in wildlife conservation by
focusing donated funds to restore resilience in at-risk Nevada habitats through strategic collaborative
