Documentary Treatment

Title: Magic of Baking

Channel: BBC THREE

Scheduling: Around 6/7pm. I have decided to set it around this time as it is the time older
teens and young adults will most likely be watching TV.

Format: The documentary I have created will be focused on Baking. How it is a coping
mechanism for people, it may be a stress reliever or even just for fun.

Purpose: The purpose of this documentary was to bring awareness of the fact that baking is
for everyone. It can be used as a stress reliever, as a hobby, entertainment. Baking is for all
ages young or old. I also focused on how baking has become an essential form of
distraction/entertainment during lockdown. More and more teenagers are getting involved
with new baking trends on social media such as tik tok every week.

Target Audience:

16-25 year olds

Style:

Very up beat, positive, lots of colour and light. I have decided to have the style quite positive
and colourful to reinforce the fact that people do turn to baking as a stress reliever or it is
some people's passion to pursue baking. Baking can resonate with alot of people whether it
is just a hobby or they dedicate their whole life to it.

Costume : Bakers - usual uniform if they have it. Apron etc

Recent change in coronavirus and the effects - may now have to wear extra protective
equipment such as masks and face shields.

Music chosen - calming, relaxing. Quiet in the background.

Interviewees:

Teenagers preferably 17/18 year olds

Also young adults 21-25

I would interview people who work at a bakery, someone who has their own baking business
and run their business at home. Someone who just does it as a hobby. I plan to use a wide
range of individuals in order to represent a diverse group of people and to help reach more
of the target audience. I believe having a diverse group of people helps audiences create a
more personal connection to the documentary as they may be in similar situations as the
people being interviewed.
Release:

The ideal date to release the programme would be before a big baking event. One of the
most beloved baking shows/events in the UK is the Great British Bake Off - Airing March 9th
2021. I would release this show a couple weeks before this date as the excitement of the
great british bake off will help generate a mass amount of viewers for the documentary.
