Recently, the implementation of garbage classification in Shanghai has dramatically aroused

public’s attention, whose aim is to build a greener and more environmental Shanghai.
So as to reduce the phenomenon of littering on the street and reuse the available resources as
much as possible, Shanghai, as one of the most important metropolises in China, is attempting to
regulate people to put garbage in the right place. The regulations on garbage classification require
people to put garbage into four separate bins labeled recyclable waste, harmful waste, household
food waste and residual waste. Those who fail to follow the regulations will be punished. After
carrying out it in communities, housing estates, schools and other public places for two months, the
appearance of the city has been significantly improved.
From my prospective, I am keeping an eye on the trend of garbage classification. There is no
doubt that campuses produce a large amount of garbage every day. In the past, few of us would pay
attention to its classification. It was quite normal to see garbage along the path on campus, causing
immense pressure on cleaners. Since the implementation of garbage classification, we have learned
to separate waste in a reasonable way and our campus is becoming more pleasant.
Besides, garbage classification is vital to cultivate our awareness of environmental protection
as well. Under the threat of land desertification and water pollution, our recyclable resources are
more and more limited. Garbage classification will help us differentiate recyclable waste from
unrecyclable waste, thereby reducing the pollution and reusing the recourses to the greatest extent.
Meanwhile, it will also bring tremendous encouragement for us to insist on garbage classification.
The acceptance and popularization of garbage classification will be a trend, which cannot be
halted. It’s everyone’s duty to protect the environment so I wish more and more people can follow
close to the regulations of garbage classification from now on.
