Dear Editor,

I’m senior three student Li Ming from Ming Qi High School. Lately a passage about “campus
network lending” on your English newspaper has aroused my attention. It mentions that many
college students are falling into the trap of network high interest loans in order to purchase
something more than they can afford. I think this phenomenon should be taken seriously.
Campus network lending has become a new kind of financial fraud, which has severely harmed
students financially and mentally. As far as I’m concerned, reasons behind this phenomenon may
be as follows. First of all, children today have grown up in the environment where parents always
satisfy their material needs, causing them lack of rational consumption awareness. After entering
college, living expenses can’t meet their growing material needs so they are attracted by so-called
“low interest loans”. Secondly, vanity also plays a factor. Some students fail to resist the temptation
of famous brand goods. When they can’t afford them, they would ask network lending platform for
help, then gradually and unconsciously falling into the trap of network high interest loans.
It is high time that some efficient steps must be taken to deal with this problem. From a
student’s point of view, I think our campus should be the first to take measures. For example, courses
on money management can help us recognize the danger of impulse consumption and cultivate our
rational consumption awareness. Moreover, our government should strengthen supervision and
guidance on network lending companies. Only in a healthy atmosphere can we enjoy the benefits
of Internet safely.
Thank you for taking time to read my letter. I’d appreciate it a lot if you would take my opinion
into consideration.

Yours sincerely,
Li Ming
