Vegan and Health

What is a vegan diet? Also called a plant- based diet. This type of diet includes fruits, vegetables,
soy, legumes, nuts and nut butters, plant-based dairy alternatives, sprouted or fermented plant
foods and whole grains [1]. Vegan diets don’t include animal foods like eggs, dairy, meat, poultry or
seafood. They also are devoid of animal byproducts such as honey, whey, casein, lactose, gelatin,
etc.

It is often believed that people that protein derived from animals such as meat, eggs and dairy is
necessary to be healthy, and that vegans often have problems such as malnutrition, anemia or for
gain a lot of muscle mass, due to the lack of nutrients from animals. However, most of the nutrients,
except for vitamin b12, can be obtained from a good plant-based diet. The most important thing is
to have a good planning of what constitutes a healthy and balanced vegan diet. Vegan is eats more
fiber, vegetables and fruits, as a result getting more vitamins and minerals into their bodies and
their protein comes from clean sources without saturated fats.

There are many research shows that a varied healthy vegan diet can play a significant role in
improving overall health like a lower blood pressure and cholesterol, lower rates of heart disease,
type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer [2]. Besides some people may choose these diets to lose
weight and their beauty benefits

There is an explanation that how a vegan diet has benefits to the human health: compared between
animal products (meat, chesse and butter) are a sources for, antibiotics, chemicals and saturated
fats. These last when you eat food that contain these fats raises colesterol levels and increase the
risk of heart disease and stroke. While a diet based on plant foods has not saturated fats and also
are high in fiber, that is linked with a better heart health.

Furthermore, a plant-based diet may help maintain radiant, healthy skin. Studies have been found
linking dairy products to acne problems. As is well known, dairy products are obtained from lactating
cows, so they contain natural and artificial growth hormones, which can interfere with the hormonal
system of the human body. Consequently, the chances of developing acne problems are increased.

Also some athletes are following a vegan diet to help their performance and recovery, they say that
there are numerous benefits of a plant-based diet. They have a lot more energy, they feel stronger,
and they are able to train harder [3]. One of this athletes is Lewis Hamilton seven times Formula
One champion, he ditched meat and dairy in 2017 after watching the vegan documentary “What
the Health.” He added he wasn’t just interested in going plant-based for his own health. “Animal
cruelty, global warming, and our personal health is at stake,” he explained [4].

In conclusion, when you adopt a vegan client, the health benefits are many and it is not only a way
to help your body, but also to stop consuming animal-derived products, you also help the planet,
humans and animals, generating further stabilization of our ecosystem.
