In my Environmental Science class, I took on the task of creating a presentation that

highlights the effect humans have on the environment and the possible solutions to reduce our
eco-footprint. This project required me to use my research and creativity skills, but also my
insights as an ESET student to develop a well-organized, informative project. It was very
time-consuming and showcased my ability to effectively produce my best work in a timely
manner. This project allowed me to challenge my abilities, and persevere despite obstacles.
My Family Proposal project allowed me to develop my research skills because almost all
of the evidence and solutions included were pulled from research that I had done outside of class.
I had to differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources and use my best judgment to make
sure that the information I incorporated into the project was accurate. This allowed me to make a
factual presentation, full of statistics, solutions, and other information that could be traced back
to reliable sources.
In addition to developing my research skills, this project gave me the opportunity to
showcase my creativity. I was allowed to choose what form this project could take and I choose
to make a slides presentation, allowing me to incorporate different themes for each slide
presented. Each slide I made included images representative of the topic displayed as the
background. Although some of the pictures had colors not compatible with the color of text I
added, I was able to find solutions and create a presentation that was not only information but
pleasing to the eyes as well.
In this project, I also strived to showcase my knowledge and concern for the environment
as an ESET student. Finding evidence to support the concerns with human’s impact on the
environment and coming up with environmentally conscious practices to help lessen that impact,
I was able to convince my family to make changes in our lifestyle that would reduce our Carbon
footprint. This is the first step in helping find solutions that could reverse the effects that the
carbon footprint of humans has on the environment. Promoting change in lifestyles that
negatively affect the environment is the first step in creating a safer and healthier environment
for all living beings.
Ultimately, my Family Proposal was not only my best work but also a project in which I
was able to prepare for similar ones I will be working on in college and my future career. I was
able to exemplify my research and creativity skills, as well as spread awareness of the key issues
I have studied as an ESET student. I take pride in the work I did and hope others can learn from
it.
