 1 Foreword

1 Foreword
This operator's manual contains information and procedures for the safe opera-
tion and maintenance of your Wacker Neuson machine. In the interest of your
own safety and to prevent accidents, you should carefully read through the safety
information, familiarize yourself with it and observe it at all times.
This operator's manual is not a manual for extensive maintenance and repair
work. Such work should be carried out by Wacker Neuson service or authorized
specialists.

The safety of the operator was one of the most important aspects taken into con-
sideration when this machine was designed. Nevertheless, improper use or in-
correct maintenance can pose a risk. Please operate and maintain your Wacker
Neuson machine in accordance with the instructions in this operator's manual.
Your reward will be troublefree operation and a high degree of availability.

Defective machine parts must be replaced immediately!

Please contact your Wacker Neuson representative if you have any questions
concerning operation or maintenance.

This operator's manual is valid for different machine types from a product range.
Therefore some figures can differ from the actual appearance of your machine.
It is also possible that the descriptions include components which are not a part
of your machine.
Details for the described machine types can be found in the chapter Technical

The nameplate lists information that uniquely identifies your machine. This infor-
mation is needed to order spare parts and when requesting additional technical
information.

3.1 Principle

State of the art

This machine has been constructed with state-of-the-art technology according to
the recognized rules of safety. Nevertheless, when used improperly, dangers to
the life and limb of the operator or to third persons or damage to the machine or
other materials cannot be excluded.

Proper use
The machine may only be used for heating in the commercial sector.
In particular, the machine may not be used for the following purposes:
„ Heating of private living quarters.
„ Heating of closed spaces without adequate ventilation.
„ Heating of vehicles or transport equipment.
Its proper use also includes the observance of all instructions contained in this
operator's manual as well as complying with the required service and mainte-
nance instructions.
Any other use is regarded as improper. Any damage resulting from improper use
will void the warranty and the liability on behalf of the manufacturer. The operator
assumes full responsibility.

Structural modifications
Never attempt to modify the machine without the written permission of the man-
ufacturer. To do so will endanger your safety and the safety of other people! In
addition, this will void the warranty and the liability on behalf of the manufacturer.
Especially the following are cases of structural modifications:
„ Opening the machine and the permanent removal of components from
Wacker Neuson.
„ Installing new components which are not from Wacker Neuson and not equiv-
alent to the original parts in design and quality.
„ Installation of accessories which are not from Wacker Neuson.
It is no problem to install spare parts from Wacker Neuson.
It is no problem to install accessories that are available in the Wacker Neuson
product range of your machine. Please refer to the installation regulations in this
operator's manual.

Requirements for operation

The ability to operate the machine safely requires:
„ Proper transport, storage and setup.
„ Careful operation.
„ Careful service and maintenance.
„ Proper assembly.

Operation
Operate the machine only as intended and only when in proper working condi-
tion.
Operate the machine in a safety-conscious manner with all safety devices at-
tached and enabled. Do not modify or disable any safety devices.
Before starting operation, check that all control and safety devices are function-
ing properly.
Never operate the machine in a potentially explosive environment.

Supervision
Never leave the machine running unattended!

Maintenance
Regular maintenance work is required in order for the machine to operate prop-
erly and reliably over time. Failure to perform adequate maintenance reduces the
safety of the machine.
„ Strictly observe the prescribed maintenance intervals.
„ Do not use the machine if it requires maintenance or repairs.

Malfunctions
If a malfunction occurs, the machine must be secured immediately.
Eliminate the malfunctions that impair safety immediately!
Have damaged or defective components replaced immediately!
For further information, refer to chapter Troubleshooting.

Spare parts, accessories

Use only spare parts from Wacker Neuson or such that are equivalent to the orig-
inal parts in design and quality.
Only use accessories from Wacker Neuson.
Non-compliance will exempt the manufacturer from all liability.

Exclusion of liability
Wacker Neuson will refuse to accept liability for injuries to persons or for damage
to materials in the following cases:
„ Structural modifications.
„ Improper use.
„ Failure to comply with this operator's manual.
„ Improper handling.
„ Using of spare parts which are not from Wacker Neuson and not equivalent
to the original parts in design and quality.
„ Using of accessories which are not from Wacker Neuson.

Operator's manual
Always keep the operator's manual near the machine or near the worksite for
quick reference.
If you have misplaced the operator's manual or require an additional copy, con-
tact your Wacker Neuson representative or download the operator's manual from
the Internet (www.wackerneuson.com).
Always hand over this operator's manual to other operators or to the future owner
of the machine.

Country-specific regulations
Observe the country-specific regulations, standards and guidelines in reference
to accident prevention and environmental safety, for example those pertaining to
hazardous materials and wearing protective gear.
Complement the operator's manual with additional instructions taking into ac-
count the operational, regulatory, national or generally applicable safety guide-
lines.

Operator's controls
Always keep the operator's controls of the machine dry, clean and free of oil or
grease.
Operating elements such as ON/OFF switch, throttle levers etc. may not be
locked, manipulated or changed without authorization.

Checking for signs of damage

Inspect the machine when it is switched off for any signs of damage at least once
per work shift.
Do not operate the machine if there is visible damage or defects.
Have any damage or defects eliminated immediately.

3.2 Qualification of the operating personnel

Operator qualifications
Only trained personnel are permitted to start and operate the machine. The fol-
lowing rules also apply:
„ You are physically and mentally fit.
„ You have received instruction on how to independently operate the machine.
„ You have received instruction in the proper use of the machine.
„ You are familiar with required safety devices.
„ You are authorized to start machines and systems in accordance with the
standards governing safety.
„ Your company or the operator has assigned you to work independently with
this machine.

Incorrect operation
Incorrect operation or misuse by untrained personnel can endanger the health
and safety of the operator or third persons and also cause machine and material
damage.

Operating company responsibilities

The operating company must make the operator's manual available to the oper-
ator and ensure that the operator has read and understood it.

Work recommendations
Please observe the recommendations below:
„ Work only if you are in a good physical condition.
„ Work attentively, particularly as you finish.
„ Do not operate the machine when you are tired.
„ Carry out all work calmly, circumspectly and carefully.
„ Never operate the machine under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medica-
tion. This can impair your vision, reactions and your judgment.
„ Work in a manner that does not endanger others.
„ Ensure that no persons or animals are within the danger zone.

3.3 Protective gear

Work clothing
Clothing should be appropriate, i.e. should be close-fitting but not restrict your
movement.
When on construction sites, do not wear long hair loosely, loose clothing or jew-
elry including rings. These objects can easily get caught or be drawn in by mov-
ing machine parts.
Only wear clothing made of material that is not easily flammable.

3.4 Transport

Switching off the machine

Before you transport the machine, switch it off and pull the plug out of the plug
receptacle. Let the machine cool off.

Emptying the tank

Wacker Neuson recommends emptying the fuel tank before transport. Fuel could
run out, e.g. if the machine is tilted.
Observe the national safety guidelines and the hazardous materials regulations
that apply to the respective means of transportation.

Lifting
When lifting the machine, observe the following instructions:
„ Designate a skilled person to guide you for the lifting procedure.
„ You must be able to see or hear this person.
„ Use only suitable and certified hoisting gear, lifting tackle and load-bearing
equipment with sufficient lifting capacities.
„ Only use the attachment points described in the operator's manual.
„ Attach the machine securely to the hoisting gear.
„ Ensure that no one is nearby or under the machine.
„ Do not climb onto the machine.

Loading the machine

Loading ramps must be able to bear the load and be in a stable position.
Make sure that no one can be endangered if the machine slips away or tips over
or if machine parts suddenly move upward or downward.
Put the operating controls and moving parts in their transport position.
Secure the machine with load-securing straps so that it cannot tip over, fall down
or slide away. Only use the attachment points described in the operator's manu-
al.

Transport vehicle
Use only suitable transport vehicles with sufficient load-carrying capacity and
suitable tie-down lugs.

Transporting the machine

Secure the machine on the transport device against tilting, falling or slipping.
Only use the lashing points listed in the operating instructions.
Also observe the country-specific regulations, standards and guidelines.
The machine must not be attached to vehicles or towed.

Restarting
Machines, machine parts, accessories or tools that were detached for transport
purposes must be re-mounted and fastened before restarting.
Only operate in accordance with the operating instructions.

3.5 Operating safety

Explosible environment
Never operate the machine in a potentially explosive environment.

Work environment
Familiarize yourself with your work environment before you start work. This in-
cludes e.g. the following items:
„ Obstacles in the work and traffic area.
„ Load-bearing capacity of the ground.
„ The measures needed to cordon off the construction site from public traffic in
particular.
„ The measures needed to secure walls and ceilings.
„ Options available in the event of an accident.

Starting the machine

Observe the safety information and warning notices located on the machine and
in the operator's manual.
Never attempt to start a machine that requires maintenance or repairs.
Start the machine as described in the operator's manual.

Vertical stability
Always ensure that the machine is vertically stable and cannot tip over, roll or
slide away.

Caution with hot parts

Do not touch any hot parts during or shortly after operation.
The following parts can become very hot and cause severe burns:
„ Hot air outlet.
„ Flue (for machines with flue attachment).

Caution with movable parts

Keep your hands, feet and loose clothing away from moving or rotating machine
parts. Parts of your body being pulled in or crushed can cause serious injuries.

Storage location
After operation, allow the machine to cool and then store it in a sealed-off, clean
and dry location protected against frost and inaccessible to children.

Operation in closed rooms

In closed or partially closed spaces, you must ensure that there is sufficient ven-
tilation e.g. by using a powerful exhaust air fan.
You must ensure that the machines always receive a sufficient supply of air for
combustion and that exhaust fumes are always channeled to the outside.
Danger of poisoning! Do not inhale exhaust fumes. They contain toxic carbon
monoxide that can lead to unconsciousness or death.

Maintain safety distances

Maintain the following safety distances when setting up the machine:
„ Maintain a safety gap of at least 3 meters (9.8 ft) on all sides between the ma-
chine and other objects. On the discharge side in particular the temperature
is very high.
„ Do not place the machine in spaces where there is a risk of fire or near to
flammable materials.

Do not operate near to flammable materials.

Do not store flammable materials near the machine.
Ensure that no flammable materials (e.g. sheets, paper, etc.) can fly into the suc-
tion or discharge side of the machine. Danger of fire!
Do not point the discharge side of the machine towards flammable materials.

Keep the suction and discharge side free

The suction and discharge side must be kept free from objects or blockages. Do
not place any cloths, covers or other objects on top of the machine. Danger of
fire!

Disconnect the machine from the electric power supply

After operating the machine, switch it off and pull the plug out of the plug recep-
tacle.

3.6 Safety during the operation of electric appliances

Extension cable
The machine may only be operated with undamaged and tested extension ca-
bles!
Only use extension cables with grounded conductor and correct connection of
the grounded conductor to the plug and coupling (only for machines of class rat-
ing I, see chapter Technical data).
Only use tested extension cables which are suitable for use at construction sites:
medium-duty rubber-sheathed cable H05RN-F or better – Wacker Neuson rec-
ommends H07RN-F, an SOOW cable, or a country-specific equivalent design.
Immediately replace damaged extension cables (e.g. tears in the sheathing) or
loose plugs and couplings.
Cable drums and multiple plug receptacles must fulfill the same requirements as
the extension cable.
Protect extension cables, multiple plug receptacles, cable drums and connection
couplings against rain, snow or any other forms of moisture.

Uncoil the cable drum completely

Danger of fire due to wound cable drum.
Uncoil the cable drum completely before operation.

Protecting the power cable

Do not use the power cable to pull or lift the machine.
Do not unplug the power cable by pulling on the cable.
Protect the power cable from heat, oil and sharp edges.
If the power cable is damaged or the plug is loose, have it replaced immediately
by your Wacker Neuson representative.

Protecting from moisture

Protect the machine against rain, snow or any other forms of moisture. This could
cause damage or other malfunctions.

Electric power supply for electrical appliances of class rating I

Note: The rated voltage is indicated on the nameplate of your machine.

The machine must be connected to a 15 A/16 A shock-proof plug receptacle

(continental type) with overload protection.
One of the following fault current protective switches is required:
„ Standard fault current protective switch (AC sensitive, type A).
„ AC/DC sensitive fault current protective switch (type B).
The machine may only be connected to an electric power supply with all machine
parts in proper working condition. Take special notice of the following compo-
nents:
„ Plug.
„ Power cable over the entire length.
„ Switch diaphragm of the ON/OFF switch, if there is one.
„ Plug receptacles.
The machine may only be connected to an electric power supply whereby the
connector of the grounded conductor (PE) is intact.

There must be at least one of the following safety devices if connected to a sta-
tionary or mobile generator:
„ Fault current protective switch.
„ Isolation (earth leakage) monitor.
„ IT-net.
If you connect your machine to a worksite distribution board, the worksite distri-
bution board must be grounded.

Note: Observe the respective national safety regulations!

3.7 Safety during the operation of combustion engines

Checking for signs of damage

When the machine is switched off, check it at least once per work shift for leaks
or cracks in the fuel line, tank or fuel cap.
Do not operate the machine if there is visible damage or defects.
Have any damage or defects eliminated immediately.

Safety precautions when refueling

Please observe the following safety-relevant instructions when refueling:
„ Do not refuel near open flames.
„ Do not smoke.
„ Turn the machine off and allow it to cool down before refueling.
„ Refuel in a well-ventilated environment.
„ Wear fuel-proof protective gloves and, if there is the possibility of spraying,
safety glasses and protective clothing.
„ Do not inhale fuel vapors.
„ Avoid skin and eye contact with fuel.
„ For refueling, use clean tools such as a hopper.
„ Do not spill fuel, especially onto hot parts.
„ Remove any spilt fuel immediately.
„ Use the correct fuel grade.
„ Do not mix fuel with other liquids.
„ Fill the tank only up to the maximum marking. If there is no maximum mark-
ing, do not fill up the tank completely.
„ Lock the fuel cap securely after refueling.

3.8 Maintenance

Maintenance work
Service and maintenance work must only be carried out to the extent described
in these operating instructions. All other procedures must be performed by your
Wacker Neuson representative.
For further information, refer to chapter Maintenance.

Work on electrical components of the machine may only be carried out by a qual-
ified electrician.

Disconnecting the machine from the electric power supply

Before carrying out service or maintenance work, pull the plug out of the plug re-
ceptacle in order to disconnect the machine from the electric power supply.

Handling operating fluids safely

Observe the following points when handling operating fluids, e.g. fuels, oils,
greases, coolants etc.:
„ Always wear personal safety clothing.
„ Avoid skin and eye contact with operating fluids.
„ Do not inhale or swallow operating fluids.
„ In particular, avoid contact with hot operating fluids. Burn and scalding haz-
ard.
„ Dispose of replaced or spilled operating fluids according to the applicable
regulations for environmental protection.
„ If operating fluids escape from the machine, cease operation of the machine
and have it repaired immediately by your Wacker Neuson representative.

Cleaning
Always keep the machine clean and be sure to clean it each time you have fin-
ished using it.
Do not use gasoline or solvents. Danger of explosion!
Do not use high pressure washers. Permeating water can damage the machine.
When electrical equipment is present, this can pose a serious injury risk from
electric shocks.

3.9 Safety devices

WARNING
Risk of injury due to non-functioning safety devices.
f Only operate the machine with properly installed and functioning safety de-
vices.
f Do not modify or remove safety devices.

Flame monitoring
The machine is equipped with an electronic flame monitor which uses a photo-
cell. If there is a malfunction (e.g. fuel starvation, flame extinguished, etc.) the
flame monitor switches the machine off and the control lamp comes on.

Protection against overheating

If the device overheats, a safety thermostat interrupts the heating function. The
"Malfunction" control lamp lights up.
When you have rectified the fault, you can press the reset button to switch the
machine back on.

Note: If the overheating protection function has been triggered, first always rec-
tify the fault.

and safety information.
„ Make sure that all the labels are kept legible.
„ Replace any missing or illegible labels.

5 Components and operator's controls

Description of function
This machine is a mobile heater with exhaust gas connection.
The fuel pump pumps the fuel from the fuel tank to the jet. The atomized fuel is
enriched with oxygen and ignited by an electric spark. On the discharge side the
ventilator blows hot air into the space to be heated. The exhaust fumes are re-
moved via the flue.

Note: If the machine is operated in enclosed spaces you must attach an exhaust
gas conduit to the flue attachment of the machine in order to evacuate the
noxious combustion gases into the open air or into a chimney.

6 Transport

If the machine falls, it can cause severe injury such as crushing.
f Do not lift the machine by its cylindrical housing.
f Only lift the machine at the attachment points using certified hoisting gear
and lifting tackle (safety load hook).

Any fuel that escapes can ignite and cause severe burns.
f Lift and move the machine in the upright position.

6.2 Transporting the machine

1. Turn off the machine and allow it to cool down.

2. Dismantle the exhaust gas conduit.
3. Check that the fuel cap is screwed on tightly.
4. Attach suitable lifting tackle to the designated lifting eyes.
5. Lift the machine evenly with the hoist.
6. Carefully set the machine down on a suitable transport vehicle.
7. Fasten machine with all tie-down lugs.

7.1 Prior to starting the machine

7.1.1 Checks before startup

Checking the machine

Always check the following points before beginning work:
„ Damage to the machine and to all components.
If the machine is damaged, do not start the machine. Have any damage or
defects eliminated immediately.
„ Fuel level.
Only use diesel or fuel oil.
Biodiesel, gasoline or other liquids must not be used.
„ Ventilator wheel rotates freely.

7.2 Starting up

Formation of paraffin in fuel if outside temperatures are low

If the outside temperature is below approximately -7 °C, wax-like paraffins can
form in the fuel which block the fuel filter and jet of the machine. This causes the
machine to malfunction and necessitates laborious cleaning.
To prevent the formation of paraffin, observe the following rules:
„ Use winterproof fuel oil or winter diesel.
„ Use a heatable fuel filter (accessory)

Instructions on setting up the machine

„ Place the machine upright on a level and non-flammable surface.
„ Maintain a safety gap of at least 3 meters (9.8 ft) on all sides between the ma-
chine and other objects. On the discharge side in particular the temperature
is very high.
„ Do not place the machine in spaces where there is a risk of fire or near to
flammable materials.
„ Only set up the machine in spaces in which there is sufficient ventilation.

Connecting an exhaust gas conduit

Note: Accessories for connecting the exhaust gas conduit can be obtained from
your Wacker Neuson representative.

Exhaust gas conduit for outside operation

If the machine is operated outside or in open spaces with adequate ventilation,
it can be also operated without an exhaust gas conduit. However, Wacker
Neuson recommends that you operate the machine outside with an exhaust con-
duit measuring at least 1 m (3.3 ft) and a rain hood.

Exhaust gas conduit when operated in enclosed spaces

WARNING
Danger of poisoning by exhaust fumes.
Exhaust fumes contain toxic carbon monoxide that can lead to unconscious-
ness or death.
f Do not operate the machine without an exhaust gas conduit.
f Evacuate combustion gases into the open air or into a flue.
f Have the exhaust gas conduit approved by a master chimney sweep.

If operated in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation, machines with a flue

attachment must always be connected to an exhaust gas conduit in order to re-
move the noxious combustion gases.
The following connection options exist:
„ Evacuate combustion gases into a chimney.
„ Evacuation of combustion gases into the open air.
f Connect the exhaust gas conduit as shown in the following illustration:

Note: Observe country-specific guidelines and regulations and have the ex-
haust gas conduit checked and approved by a master chimney sweep pri-

Should you have any questions concerning connection of the exhaust gas
conduit contact a master chimney sweep/heating engineer.

Connecting warm air hoses

For flexible distribution of the expelled hot air you can connect suitable warm air
hoses made by Wacker Neuson to the discharge side of the machine.
Observe the following instructions:
„ Only use approved warm air hoses, distribution connectors and other acces-
sory parts made by Wacker Neuson.
„ Never exceed the maximum length of the connected warm air hoses. Using
a distribution connector reduces the maximum length of the connected warm
air hoses.
„ Ensure that the warm air hoses and distribution connector are fastened se-
curely.
„ Ensure that the warm air hoses are not folded, bent or twisted.
„ Only use the warm air hoses when fully extended.
„ The thermal stability of the warm air hose must lie above the temperature in-
crease of the machine plus the ambient temperature.

Note: Detailed information on the use of warm air hoses can be found in the
chapter Technical data.

Connecting the machine to the electric power supply

NOTICE
Electrical voltage.
Incorrect voltage can cause damage on the machine.
f Check if the voltage of the current source corresponds with the information
of the machine, see chapter Technical data.

f Check power cable and extension cable for signs of damage.
f Only use extension cables for which grounded conductors are connected to
the plug and the coupling (only for machines of class rating I, see chapter
Technical Data).

1. If required, connect the machine to a permitted extension cable.

Note: See chapter Technical data for the permitted lengths and cross-section
areas of extension cables.
2. Insert the plug into the plug receptacle of the electric power supply.
The "Operation" control lamp lights up as soon as the machine is connected
to the electric power supply.

Switching on the ventilation operating mode

f Set the cooling/heating switch to the ventilation position.
The ventilator in the machine runs continuously and the machine does not heat.
Use this operating mode to circulate the ambient air.

Switching on the heating operating mode

f Set the cooling/heating switch to the heating position.
The machine runs continuously and only switches off when the fuel runs out.
In this operating mode, you can connect a room thermostat.

Note: If you operate the machine without a room thermostat, you must fit the
protective cap on the connection socket, otherwise the machine will not
heat.

Setting the heat output

You can set the heat output of the machine using the output setting I/II switch.
The machine has two heat output settings:
„ Setting I:
„ Setting II:

Note: During initial start-up or after the fuel circuit has been completely drained,
the flow of fuel to the jet may be insufficient. The flame monitor switches
the machine off and the "Malfunction" control lamp is lit. If this happens,
wait approximately one minute and then press the reset button to switch
the machine back on.

Connecting the room thermostat

If a room thermostat (accessory) is connected, the machine automatically
switches itself on or off depending on the set temperature.
1. Remove the protective cap from the connection socket.
2. Insert the connector for the room thermostat into the connection socket on
the machine.
3. Place the room thermostat in a suitable location in the room.
4. Set the desired temperature on the room thermostat.

Note: If you are not using the room thermostat, fit the protective cap to the con-
nection socket to prevent the contacts from becoming dirty.

7.3 Decommissioning

NOTICE
Improper handling can damage the machine.
f Do not disconnect the machine from the electric power supply until the ven-
tilator has switched itself off.

1. Switch off the machine via the ON/OFF switch.

Note: To prevent the machine from overheating, after it has been switched
off the ventilator continues to run for approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Do not dis-
connect the machine from the electric power supply until the ventilator has
switched itself off.
2. Disconnect the machine from the electric power supply.

Note: If the machine is to be shut down for long periods, empty the fuel tank.

Class rating
The class rating according to DIN EN 61140 specifies the safety measures for
electrical equipment to avoid electrocution. There are four class ratings:

Protection class IP
The protection class according to DIN EN 60529 indicates the suitability of elec-
trical equipment for use in certain ambient conditions as well as the protection
against risks.
The protection class is specified by an IP code according to DIN EN 60529.

Code Meaning 1st number:

Protection against touching hazardous parts.
Protection against permeating foreign objects.
0 Not protected against contact.
Not protected against foreign bodies.
1 Protected against contact with the back of the hand.
Protected against large foreign objects with diameter > 50 mm (1.9 in).
2 Protected against contact with one finger.
Protected against medium-sized foreign objects (diameter > 12.5 mm
(0.5 in)).
3 Protected against touch with a tool (diameter > 2.5 mm (0.01 in)).
Protected against small foreign objects with (diameter > 2.5 mm (0.01 in)).
