Disconnect the battery power (Procedure

013-009). Shut off the fuel supply and
drain valves. Refer to the OEM service
manual.

Remove the injector supply line

(Procedure 006-051).

Cummins Common Rail: Remove

connector retaining nut. Use connector Part Number 3164025
puller to remove connector from head.

Inspect fuel connector for burrs or

deformation around inlet and outlet.
Check for plugging or material No burrs, plugging, contamination. No
contamination. Check o-ring. If new torn or deteriorated o-ring.
injector is being used, must use new
high-pressure connector.

Inspect outlet surface for uneven seating

or leakage. Replace if observed.
Cummins Common Rail: Lubricate fuel
connector o-ring and threads on retaining
nut. Insert connector, aligning guide pin Torque: 41 N•m [31 ft-lb]
with slot in head at 12-o'clock position.
Tighten fuel connector nut.

Install the high-pressure fuel lines

(Procedure 006-051). Open the fuel
supply and drain valves. Refer to the
OEM service manual.

Connect the battery power (Procedure

013-009). Operate the engine and check No leaks.

Preparatory Steps TOC

WARNING
Batteries can emit explosive gases. To reduce the possibility
of personal injury, always ventilate the compartment before
servicing the batteries. To reduce the possibility of arcing,
CAUTION
Use caution when disconnecting or removing fuel lines,
replacing filters and priming the fuel system that fuel is not
spilled or drained into the bilge area. Do not drop or throw
filter elements into the bilge area. The fuel and fuel filters
must be discarded in accordance with local environmental
regulations.

• Disconnect the battery power. Refer to Procedure

013-009.
• Shut off the fuel supply and drain valves. Refer to
the OEM service manual.
• Remove the injector supply line. Refer to
Procedure 006-051.

Remove TOC

Cummins Common Rail Fuel System

Remove the fuel connector retaining nut.

Use fuel connector puller, Part Number 3164025 to

remove the fuel connector from the cylinder head.
Inspect for Reuse TOC

A new high-pressure connector must be installed if a

new injector is being installed.

Inspect the fuel connector. Look for burrs or deformation

around the inlet and outlet sides of the connector.

Check the edge filter for signs of plugging or material

contamination. Do not reuse a high-pressure fuel
connector debris is present.

Check the o-ring for tearing or deterioration.

Inspect the outlet sealing surface of the high-pressure

connector for wear, an uneven seating surface, or signs
of leakage.

When a high-pressure fuel leak is present, small lines or

cuts in the connector will be eroded into the seating
surface.

The high-pressure connector and injector must be

replaced when this failure is observed.
Install TOC

Cummins Common Rail Fuel System

A new fuel connector must be used when replacing the

injector.

Lubricate the fuel connector o-ring and the threads on

the fuel connector retaining nut.

Carefully insert the fuel connector, aligning the guide pin

with the slot in the cylinder head at the 12-o'clock
position.

NOTE: If the injector was removed along with the

high-pressure fuel connector, the installation steps
outlined in Procedure 006-026 must be followed.

Tighten the fuel connector retaining nut.
