ENGLISH FOR PERSONAL COMMUNICATION

1. Make learning notes of each Learning Activity in this module with a critical and
creative thinking approach.

As an english teacher i realized that i have to learn more about english. Learning this module
is help me to developed my English skills in building and maintaining personal relation
with others. From this module I learned some types of short functional text, The
definition ,social functions, text structures, and lexico-grammatical features of personal
letter, invitation, announcement and advertisement. The  differences  between formal and
informal letter and invitation.

This module consists of four learning activities. In Learning Activity 1, it provides about A
personal letter. A personal letter or friendly letter is a letter that is usually addressed to
people you know personally. The format of letter are Heading, Salutation/greeting, Body of
letter/message (Opening, Sharing current and past personal news, Responding the expected,
unexpected, and personal news) Complimentary sign/closing and signature. The language
features of personal letter are focus on exchanging personal current news, feelings and
condition, use pronouns, simple present tense and past tense, use the date and address and
informal greeting and salutation.

In learning activity 2, it tell us about invitation, A formal invitation is formal written and
verbal request inviting someone to go somewhere, to do something, or to participate an event.
Generally, the invitation card includes the following information: Name of the host, Standard
expression, Detail information including day, date, time, and venue of the event, Purpose of
invitation, Special note (e.g. dress code, reservation/RSPV). The language features of formal
invitation is present tense.

In learning activity 3, it discuss about An announcement. Announcement is a statement

made to the public or to the media which gives information about something that has
happened or that will happen.Generic Structure of announcement are Headings/Purposes and
Detailed information. The function of announcement is To share planned/arranged
activities/agenda. Language Features of announcement are Common expressions in
announcement, Singular and plural nouns with or without articles a, the, this, those, my, their,
etc and Pronunciation, Intonation, spellings, and punctuation marks.

In learning activity 4, it tell us about Advertisement, Advertising is the action of calling

public attention to an idea, good, or service through paid announcements by an identified
sponsor. Language Features of advertisement are The choice of words used related to
necessary information, The choice of words used to indicate the target, The choice of words
used is precise, logical, and courteous, The choice of words used have a suggestion for the
audience.

In forum discussion we discuss how to make invitaion, personal letter, advertisement and
announcement in student’s graduation and new admissions students.i chose student’s
graduation and mam wida suggest me to use more social media besides facebook, whatsapp,
instagram and youtube such as TikTok, animation story/video, flyer, and others to get
maximum goal in my planning

In general this module is related to basic of competence for junior high school student. I am
junior high teacher and i have taught the materials in my class. The materials is command in
our daily activities. Especially when we use our gadget. There are a lot of announcement and
advertisement in our social media and my students are familiar with them. This module gives
many examples of the materials by vidio and many questions to increase my analitycal
thinking skill.

2. Create a resume as a learning conclusion from this module.

From the fourth materials that I have learned, it can be concluded that English for personal
communicatin is a kind of way of conveying information and communication using English.
such as personal letter, invitation, announcement and advertisement. As English teachers, we
must understand materials above to teach students how to make a good personal letter,
invitation, announcement and adverstiment and how student understand the information that
they get from them. Overall, materials in modul 2 are very interesting and usefull for me as
an english teacher. I hope I can apply my new knowledges to improve my teaching skill in
class.
