How does the Keto Diet Affect the Body?

Many people in the world try to lose weight or attempt to eat healthier, but what is the

best way to approach that? There are many diets out there and plenty of new studies that

thousands of people try every day. There is a popular one called the keto diet and it has a really

big impact on people in so many ways, but how does it affect those who try it?

Before people wanted to lose weight the keto diet was originally made for people with

epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that some people can get treatment for. Others who

couldn’t seem to find that balance went on keto and had no problems! Now people are using the

keto diet to mainly lose weight and it has a very interesting outcome. The history of epilepsy is

very interesting and found it should be included (Ananya).

Many people have been interviewed for personal events and lots of people have been

interviewed for this particular diet. The keto diet has worked for many people and the feedback

was impressive. Two separate interviews and found out how much weight they lost, why they

went on the diet, how long they chose to diet, how it made them feel, asked if there were any

negative outcomes, and even asked if they felt this diet should be temporary. All these questions

helped get perspective, good statistics, and even motivation. Both of the interviewers said they

lost between 30 and 40 pounds within an eight to ten month period (Edwards). The information

was very similar, which helps the statistics stay steady. More statistics came from a survey about

if people worked out on top of dieting (Schueller).

There will always be multiple sources, but many have too much information or stuff that

doesn’t even belong. This blog on Mayo clinic gave enough information that included statistics,

positive and negative effects, risks, and benefits. The blog mentions how if a person wants to

lose one pound a week they would have to eat 500 to 750 calories fewer a day (Mayo Clinic

Staff). That is a dramatic decrease, but it is effective.

There are many recipes that are keto friendly and even people who don’t regularly eat the

keto diet will not taste the difference. They will feel better for sure though. This cookbook not

only has recipes, but also includes background information about how the body naturally works

before keto (Vogel). Then the keto diet is added, the author explains how it all works then. This is

very helpful and would add lots of information to the research question.

Three different pictures were used for this essay. A pie chart (Health Essentials), a bar

graph (The ketogenic diet and diabetes), and a current food pyramid( Baylen Linnekin) Both of

these visuals helped get a true understanding of each situation. Many of the statistics that were

used came from Chaunie Brusie. All of the hormonal and diabetes impacts came from blog

(Gregory et al), article (Aleshia), and study (New York Medical College).
