Online Activity
The students and the teacher will meet at a designated time for
class to go over fractions and the many different ways they can
be used. The teacher will use some visual images to represent
fractions and will briefly discuss adding and subtracting
fractions. The teacher will also explain mixed numbers and how
they appear in fractions. After the discussion, the teacher will
share his or her screen and bring up the fractions simulation
game. The teacher will have the students navigate him or her
through each different problem and level until they reach the
end of the game or time runs out. The teacher will do this by
allowing volunteers to suggest where pieces of the fraction
puzzle should go. He or she will also be responsible to make sure
that students who are less vocal get a chance to make
suggestions. The teacher should allow students to use zoom
chat to make suggestions as well, just in case a student is either
shy or is having a problem with their mic. The teacher should
play a minimal role in solving the answers for this, and should
primarily be there to guide students to the right answer. Once
the assignment is over, the teacher will provide the link to the
simulation and assign playing through the game themselves as
homework. The goal will be to see how far they can get on their
own.
