 El día nacional de la afrocolombianidad se conmemora anualmente desde el 21 de mayo

de 2002 obedeciendo a la Ley 725 de 2001, la cual estableció este día como homenaje a
los 150 años de abolición de la esclavitud en Colombia, consagrada en la Ley 21 de mayo
21 de 1851.

 El termino afrocolombiano, se refiere a las personas afrodescendientes que viven en

Colombia. De igual forma, hay otras expresiones locales que son muy comunes para
referirse a ellos, como negros, morochos, morenos, libres, gente negra, gente de color y
costeños.
