museum for a variety of reasons, most commonly because the person

NATIONAL MUSEUM

1. The National Museum

It goes by a different official name, which is the Museum of the

Filipino People. Located in Rizal Park in Manila, this is a museum with
easy access. Although the original building was meant for a public
library, it was later renovated in 2003. It has turned into an art gallery
since then. The exhibits are practically divided into two: natural
history and cultural heritage. Natural history covers the areas of
botany, zoology, geology and paleontology, while cultural heritage
includes anthropology, fine arts, and archaeology.

2. Ayala Museum

Located in business district of Ayala in Makati, the building has got a

trendy, modern look. Different from the National Museum, which is
government owned, this one is managed by private and so far, it has
been the most popular private museum with the most visitors in the
country.

The history of the Philippines from its prehistoric eras to the time
when the country gained its independence in 1946 is portrayed

8
through the sixty dioramas exhibited in the museum. These historical
dioramas have always been the must-see attraction of Ayala museum.
In addition, rare painting from the local master artists, artefacts (such
as ritual objects, weapons, musical instruments) found in various
regions of the country, miniature sea vessels and boats vividly
picturing the sea transport evolution can be seen in the museum.

The University of Sto. Tomas Museum of Arts and Sciences is the
oldest existing museum in the Philippines. It houses both scientific
and artistic artefacts. Works of art displayed in its galleries include
works of renowned Filipino artists, such as Fernando Amorsolo,
Carlos Francisco, Vicente Manansala, and Galo Ocampo. The museum
also has permanent displays of natural history specimens, oriental
art, Philippine pious images, medals, coins, and historical
memorabilia. The paintings displayed at the museum range from the
17th to the 20th century.
4. Rizal Shrine

dedicated for the country’s hero, Jose Rizal. Designed and
reconstructed during the era of President Quirino to take after the
original house of the hero’s, which was destroyed in World War II, the
museum displays things that are related to Jose Rizal, such as his
photographs, books, and even his execution coat. In addition to that,
the well in the house has been featured as a wishing well for its
visitors.

With approximately 270,000 visitors coming per year, Rizal Shrine is a

must visit in Calamba.

LOCAL MUSEUM

5. The Aguinaldo Shrine

The Aguinaldo Shrine is where the independence of the Philippines
was declared on June 12, 1898. The shrine is the ancestral home of
President Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the First Republic of
the Philippines. The house was originally built of thatch and wood in
1845 and reconstructed with limestone and hardwood in 1849.
Aguinaldo was born in the house on March 22, 1869.

9
The house is located along the Camino Real, the town’s main street,
signifying that the Aguinaldos were among the elite of the town.
Emilio’s father Carlos, and brother Crispulo, both served as
gobernadorcillos (town mayor). Emilio would later be elected to the
same position when the title was changed to capitan municipal.
6. The Geronimo Berenguer delos Reyes Museum
GBR Museum is a testament to many significant and monumental
events in Philippine and world history.
Located inside Gateway Business Park in Brgy. Javalera, Gen. Trias,
Cavite, the museum exhibits the Philippines' rich history of culture
and the arts. It contains more than 3,000 vintage photographs as well
as hundreds of model airplanes donated by founder Mr. Geronimo
Berenguer de los Reyes Jr. (GBR) from his personal collection.
Dr. Jose P. Rizal once said that “ to foretell the destiny of a nation, it is
necessary to open the book that tells of her past”. This museum does
just that. It celebrates the glorious past of different places at different
times, and tells stories of hundreds of events worth revisiting and
remembering.
At the entrance of the museum is a memorial and a detailed account
of the Cavite Mutiny of 1872, which was supported by Crisanto de los
Reyes, GBR's Ancestor.

7. Bonifacio Trial House

The Roderico Reyes Ancestral House, more commonly known as

the Bonifacio Trial House, is a historic house and museum in
Maragondon, Cavite, Philippines. It was built in 1889 and served as a
military court, wherein it has been a witness to the trial of Andres
Bonifacio in 1897.
Now converted into a museum, this antique house was where
Andres Bonifacio, leader of the Philippine Revolution, and his brother
Procopio were tried for execution in 1897. Built in 1889, the house is
made of wood and adobe, patterned after Filipino-Spanish
architecture. The first floor displays tarpaulins that tell the story of
Andres Bonifacio, the Katipunan, and the Philippine-Spanish
Revolution.

10
The second floor has several rooms displaying a diorama of the
trial court, framed flags used by the Katipunan, and Katipunan-
related paintings by amateurs. Two other rooms house a library and
secret letters sent and received by Andres.
