Scene 1

Private Dale Web, private Stefan Wagner ,

DALE WEBB: American soldier from Austin Texas goes by Dale

STEFAN WAGNER: Nazi Germany Solider from Berlin Germany goes by Stefan
Commander Carl Stevens

Setting: A battlefield in Germany both men are injured

AT RISE
DALE
Dale reaches for his gun and ammunition
you stay right there you Nazi bastard.

STEFAN
Anxiously reaches for his knife in his shin strap. And crawls over to Dale but stops
because his bullet wound was hurting. Hey I don't want to fight I'm hurt and you are
also. Lets try and survive.

DALE
(uncertain voice)
And how can I be sure you wont kill me?

STEFAN
(Breathes in and out)
Well I actually hate and disagree with what the Germans are doing. But I was drafted in
this war so I had no choice.

DALE
(confused)
Hmm ok well I guess I can trust you for now but one wrong move I will shoot you ok?
Also how do you know how to speak English?

STEFAN
Ok. When we were in boot camp we were taught english so we could understand what
you guys were talking about if we ever heard you on the radio etc. I also took it
throughout high school.

DALE
Makes sense.

STEFAN
So besides being a soldier what are some of your interests?

DALE
Well I grew up on a farm so I love growing food and farming. What about you?

STEFAN
(Excited)
Really! I grew up on a farm also.

DALE
Wow. I always thought that Germans just drank beer and hated Jewish people. Looks
like you are not so bad after all.

STEFAN
Yeah see were both just humans who want good for the world. Aghh ouch.

DALE
What?

STEFAN
My wound hurts really bad.

DALE
who has a broken shoulder walks over to stefan
where is it?
STEFAN
(In an uncomfortable voice)
My shoulder.

DALE
unbuttons the top few buttons of stefans shirt so he can see the wound and grabs some
bandages and gauze and wraps them around Stefan’s shoulder
That's the best I can do.

STEFAN
Thank you.

DALE
And plus it looks like your backpack strap helped absorb the bullet.

STEFAN
That's good

STEFAN
You should probably get some rest Dale with your shoulder.

DALE
(sits down and closes his eyes)
Yeah yeah
 Scene 2

Setting:Dale Webs hears his walky talky and he anxiously grabs it and holds it like a
hot potato from how happy he is.

AT RISE Dale and Stefan are both laying on the floor.

DALE
Repat

Carl
It is commander Stevens.

DALE
Hello sir

CARL
Hello Private Web

CARL
We are coming to get you what is your current location
DALE
About 20 miles south of Omaha Beach. That is where i'm down

CARL
Ok. We will call you a medic transport to come take you home son.

DALE
I was afraid you were gonna say that.

CARL
You did good. Over and out

Dale throws his walkie talkie in his backpack.

STEFAN
What was that?

DALE
A medic transport is coming to get me. You gotta go hide somewhere or else they will kill
you.Ok

STEFAN
Ok.

Dale
How about we exchange addresses and after the war we can mail letters to each other.

STEFAN
Alright.

They exchange information with each other. Dale gets up to help Stefan pack his things.

STEFAN
It was nice knowing ya

DALE
It was!

Stefan walks off stage. Dale sits back down

CARL
Dale! Get up, Private, you're going home.
Two medics with a stretcher run over to Dale and lay him on it.

Dale sees Stefan limp away into the forest confident that he will be ok.

Scene 3
Characters
Emily Webb. Dale Webbs daughter
Emma Wagner. Stefan Wagner’s daughter

Setting: A farm in Texas.

AT RISE
EMILY
Hey dad!

DALE
Yeah what's up

EMILY
What is all this stuff

DALE
Hold on, I'm coming. Oh that stuff its um…

EMILY
What? It's what? What is it?

DALE
Its my things from War

EMILY
You never told me about this stuff, just some of your stories and experiences.

DALE
Well dear it's not really something I show people

EMILY
I understand

DALE
Well your old enough to know
DALE shows Emily all of his patches and pictures he had in his box.
(Emily sees a piece of paper with some addresses on them with a phone number)
EMILY
Dad, what's this?

DALE
Oh that's what one of my pals gave me before I left Germany to come back home.

EMILY
Well we should try to see where he is and talk to him

DALE
Yeah sure why not

Emily Immediately grabs the paper and takes it to their computer and starts figuring
out where he is.

EMILY
Found it

DALE
(walks over to Emily)

Emily points to the computer screen

DALE
Wow?

EMILY
What?

DALE
He really does live on a farm. I thought he was lying.

EMILY
I'm confused

DALE
Well pack your bags darling we're gonna go meet him

EMILY
Um...alright!

Setting: a small farm that is well taken care of

(Dale knocks on the door then closes his eyes and takes a deep breath)

EMILY
I'm so happy for you dad!

DALE
It's been over 40 years since I last saw him

(Stefan slowly opens the door)

STEFAN
Who is…….. Private Dale Webb

(Stefan and Dale give each other a big enthusiastic hug)

STEFAN
Dale what are you doing on this side of town. You know there's nothing exciting about
a farm.

DALE
We found your information that you gave me while we were on that battlefield
together,we pretty much crossed our fingers hoping you still lived here.

STEFAN
I think I still have your information also. Come inside, it's quite cold outside.

Years later Stefan and Dale pass away but their daughters end up staying friends and
keeping in touch with one another

EMILY
(PIcks up phone)
HI!

EMMA
HI Emily

EMILY
How's life treating you up in Germany?

EMMA
It's really good. How about you? How's life up in Texas?

EMILY
(Excitedly)
Oh my gosh! I'm getting married in May. Mark proposed to me last week!

EMMA
That's so amazing,i'm so happy for you EMILY.

EMILY
I was actually going to ask if you wanted to be my bridesmaid?

EMMA
I would Love to Emily.

EMILY
OK great I will send you the info when the time comes ok?

EMMA
Do you know where you are planning on getting married?

EMILY
Actually I was thinking of getting married on my Dad's farm. He has a huge grass field
and we can set it up all nice and modern looking.

EMMA
That would be so cute Emily.

EMILY
Yeah its not set in stone but I think it could possibly happen,if mark is ok with it.

EMMA
Who cares what Mark thinks hes probably happy enough that you said yes. Just kidding.

EMILY
Hahaha,you make me laugh Emma

EMMA
I'm glad i'm making someone laugh. I'm so happy for you. Alright talk to you later.

EMILY
Ok bye.

Both put down phone and walk off stage
