 Why Called Tappet Loom?

Tappet is a type of cam to which a rotary motion is given for the purpose of producing
reciprocating motion in rods and levers by sliding contact.

difference?

Cam: a rotating or sliding piece (such as an eccentric wheel or a cylinder with an

irregular shape) in a mechanical linkage used especially in transforming rotary
motion into linear motion or vice versa
Tappet. : a lever or projection moved by some other piece (such as a cam) or intended to tap or
touch something else to cause a particular motion.

 Weavers Beam/Back Beam/Warp
Beam

The warp beam, which holds the lengthwise yarns, is located at the back of the machine and is
controlled so that it releases yarns to the weaving area of the loom as needed.
 Whip roll/Back rest

This is guide roller which directs the warp threads on their way to the lease rods and heddles.
 Lease Rod

Another guiding device it is for the warp yarns. These are two sorts of wooden or glass rods
set between the whip rolls and the heddles.
Alternating warp threads can be kept separate by passing over and under these rods.
 Drop Wire

Parts of a warp stop motion. Warp yarn passed through drop wire called pinning.

 Heald frame/Heald shaft/Heald

To Shed formation. Shed is a dividation of warp threads into two

equal/unequal parts.
 Shuttle

To carry out weft yarn/pirn package.

 Shuttle Box

Shuttle box is the housing for the shuttle and is made of wood. It has a picker
and a spindle. It may also accommodate the picker without spindle. The top
and side of the shuttle box unto the sley race are open. The shuttle dwells
inside the box for the intermediate period between two successive picks.
 Reed

This is inevitably a combination made up of steel wire rods set vertically in a frame. The spaces
between the wires are known as splits or dents and are kept even and parallel. This is the first
function of reed.
Its second function is to feed the filling thread into position. To do this it has to move in a back and
forth motion.
Sley

The part of a loom mechanism in which the

reed is fixed and which moves the reed for
ward to beat up the weft.
 Picker

Picker is a piece made either of synthetic material or leather. Picker may be

placed on a grooves or spindle in the shuttle box. Picker is used to drive the
shuttle from one box to another. While entering the box it also sustains the
force of the shuttle.
 Buffer

Usually, the buffer has a hollow cylindrical shape formed by convolutely winding a leather sheet.
object of the invention is to provide a buffer which will withstand the impact of
the picker stick without substantial deformation and loss of flexibility.
