PENDER'S HEALTH PROMOTION MODEL

Health Promotion Model introduces by Dr. Nola J. Pender. This model is a

"complementary counterpart to models of health protection." It describes health as

a positive, vibrant state rather than merely the deficiency of disease. Health

promotion is engaged in growing a patient's level of well-being. The health

promotion model describes persons' multidimensional nature as they relate

surrounded by their environment to pursue health.

Pender's model applications in three areas: individual characteristics and

experiences, behavior-specific cognitions and affect, and behavioral outcomes.

These summaries that every single individual has unique own characteristics and

understandings that affect preceding actions. The established of variables for

behavior precise knowledge and affected to have significant motivational

significance. The variables can be improved through nursing actions. Health-

promoting behavior is the preferred behavioral outcome, which marks the end

argument in the Health Promotion Model. These behaviors should improve health,

improved practical ability, and better quality of life at all development stages. The

final behavioral response is partially by the instant competing demand and

preferences, which can disorganize proposed actions to promote health (“Nursing

Theory,” 2020).
According to Pender, the HPM makes four assumptions: Individuals strive

to control their behavior, Individuals work to improve themselves and their

environment, Health professionals comprise the interpersonal environment, which

influences individual behaviors, Self-initiated change of individual and

environmental characteristics is essential to changing behavior (“Psych-Mental

Health NP,” 2020).

Major Concepts of the Health Promotion Model is defined as behavior

motivated by the need to grow well-being and objectify human health possible. It

is a method to wellness, health protection, or illness prevention is designated as

behavior motivated aspiration to actively avoid illness, identify it early, or sustain

functioning within the restrictions of illness (Gonzalo, 2019)

About this concern in the study, pregnancy causes changes in women's

lifestyle; hence, their health-promoting behaviors should be improved to avoid

difficulties during this critical period, which involves knowledge of the aspects

affecting behaviors. To conclude the health-promoting lifestyles in high-risk

pregnant women based on Pender's health promotion model constructs.
