REVIEW OF RUN

“Run”, the new American thriller film directed by Aneesh Chaganty, was written by its
director and Sev Ohanian. The movie stars Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen in a physically
and emotionally hard role. It was released on November 20 of 2020 on the Hulu´s platform
and in Netflix on April 2 of the present year. By the moment it hasn’t won any awards as a
film, but the actors have; for example, Kiera Allen won the Spotlight Award of the
Hollywood Critics Association, and Sarah Paulson won the Mommie Dearest Worst Screen
and the Mom of the Year Award of Women Film Critics Circle Awards.

The film plot is completely full of tension. Run is about how a seventeen-year-old teenager
with asthma, cardiac arrhythmia, hemochromatosis, diabetes, and paralysis, discovered one
day how her mom keeps a deep and dark secret. The film starts showing how a woman has
a prematurely baby that the doctors had to resurrect, and after the do, Diana (Sarah
Paulson) finally can see her baby. Then, we can see how the year pass and the baby, Chloe
(Kiera Allen) become a young woman with many health problems, but the biggest on is that
she is paraplegic, so she can´t move her legs or her feet; due to her diseases she has to drink
many different pills per day. But one day Chloe discovered that Diana, her mom, brings
new pills with the name of her mom but that Diane insist that Chloe most drink them.
Anyway, Chloe at night try to search on google what are those pills for, discovering that
there is not WiFi. But it doesn´t stop Chloe to find the truth, like she doesn´t have any
cellphone or number, she calls a random number of a man who helps her to discovered that
the pills named “Trigoxin” are actually a drug that treats severe heart conditions and that
the color of the pills are red and white. The thing is that the pills that her mom gives to her
are white and green. After that Chloe convinces her mom to go to the cinema and watch a
movie, and with the pretext of going to the restroom she escapes and goes to a pharmacy,
where she discovers that the “Trigoxin” pills are actually for dogs and are name
“Ridocaine” and if a human drink them, his or her legs could go numb, but at the second
she discovers that, her mom appear and took her away of the pharmacy.

When Chole wake up, she notices that her mom is not at home and that she is kept in her
bedroom, so she escapes through her window and the roof and arrives to other room of her
house. Then, she falls through the stairs and she discovers that she has movement in her
foot. Chloe goes to the highway, where meets with the postman that tries to help her to
escape, but Chloe´s mom arrives at the second and inject a liquid on the postman´s neck
that make him “fall asleep”. When Chole wakes up again, she is in the basement and when
she goes upstairs, she finds some documents that shows her that Diane´s real daughter (the
real Chole) died two hours and ten minutes after she born, and that she kidnapped other
mother´s baby and raised her like her own baby, that was Chloe, the principal character. In
that second Diane finds “her daughter” watching to all those documents and tries to keep
her calm, but when she realizes she can´t, she tries to inject a weird liquid to her, but Chloe
acts faster and she locks himself in a kind of closet, where finds a dangerous poison that
after Diane enter to the room she drinks, obligating Diane to take her to the hospital. In the
hospital, Diane kidnap Chloe and tries to escape with her, but some policemen arrive and
shot her. Finally, seven years have passed, and Chloe is an adult that frequently visits her
“mom” but that day she gives Diane Trigoxin, saying her goodbye. The end.

Honestly, I think it is a great movie, but there are lots of loose threads, for example the
future of the postmen. Furthermore, the principal idea it´s pretty interesting, it causes to the
audience anguish to know what will happen and keeps us pretty anxious. It has been one of
the best thrillers movies I have watched, even if it is not a “horror movie”, but it gets all my
attention, and the scene when the postman is attacked by Diane made my hair stand on end.
I would recommend this film to people who like psychological terror movies.
