2. What alternatives were available to Emanon besides demoting the purchasing manager?

Instead of demoting the purchasing manager, Emanon can let a supervisor who will watch out and teach
that manager how to have a suitable strategy and solution in this case. The supervisor will be the one
taking the main responsible for the current issue, and purchasing manager can observe and learn from
this. This method not only can solve the issue but it also creates the opportunity for the purchasing
manager to study from experience. Moreover, after solving this issue, Emanon can give the purchasing
manager another chance to prove their ability. For example, giving that manager another contract or
project and let the supervisor observe and evaluate the result. If the manager can gain the benefit as the
goal set by Emanon, that manager can stay at their position and does not get the demotion (in this
scenario, at the initial time, the supervisor still observes the manager to prevent any risks may happen).
Otherwise, they will be demoted because they are truly lack of capacity for this position. This way can
create the motivation for manager, increase the productivity and raise the commitment of manager with
the company.
