Death Penalty

Execution again raises pros and cons among the people who agree and refuse to die. For those who
agree, the death ban must indeed be enforced because the crimes committed must be repaid with life

Another main reason for the existence of the death penalty is that it has a deterrent effect on potential
criminals. If they realize they will be sentenced to death, such criminals will at least think a thousand
times before committing a drug crime. In fact, most of the scholars agree with the imposition of death.
Apart from being regulated in the Koran, many countries, including Indonesia.

The death penalty is also implemented to provide a stern warning to potential criminals that we will not
compromise with such serious and extraordinary crimes. The facts prove, when compared to developed
countries that do not apply the death penalty, Saudi Arabia, which applies Islamic law and the death
penalty, has a low crime rate.

Based on data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2012, for example, the murder
crime rate was only 1.0 per 100 thousand people. Compare with Finland which amounted to 2.2;
Belgium 1.7; and Russia 10.2

Meanwhile, those who are anti-death think that no one party can kill someone's life, except God.
Sentences are also often juxtaposed with accusations of violating human rights. Human rights activists
argue that there are at least three reasons why the death penalty should be rejected. First, taking
someone's life is God's own right. Two, the judge who sentenced the defendant to death is an imperfect
human so there is always the possibility of producing a wrong decision. Three, the worst people who are
given the opportunity to undergo repentance for crimes that have been committed.

For example, the execution of drug convicts has also been criticized by the International Amnesty
Council. This statement was conveyed by the agency. This criticism left this institution in light of
President Jokowi's campaign which continues to promote the improvement of human rights (HAM).
Meanwhile, his policy to punish death is contrary to human rights.

Indonesia really values differences of opinion. For this reason, it is very natural that there are differences
of opinion among legal experts. Especially for us as a wider community with various ethnic and religious
backgrounds, as well as different customs. Of course there will be many differences of opinion, especially
those related to the adoption of atypical.
